coon attack ,badly hurt duck,need help

This happened to a chicken of mine just last week. I took her to the vet and ultimately put her down.

He did say to be cautious of any eggs. Poultry is not affected by rabies but it is possible for them to pass it along.

Also I am very sorry. I know how deeply it hurts.

For you. I went through this a few years back with my goose Gertie. I sat with her all day and night and just took a warm cloth and gently stroked her head trying to sooth her s well as clean the dried blood. I had taken her to my vet to actually ask him to put her down so she would not suffer but he gave me eye cream and told me to give her 24 hours. I felt that being with her that night calmed her, soothed her wounds as well as forged a bond that was deepened and never broken. Good luck and I will pray for the same outcome

Well "Fancy" made it through the night and seems alot better today....I cleaned the laundry room up and spray for flies ,while I let her and my drake swim (she spent about 20 mins cleaning herself and dipping her head in the pool. Till using that vetrycin and it's seeming to help this far! She's going to make it I think as long as I can keep infection and flies away from her!

Thank you,glad to here a happy story! My male duck loves her soo much and has been keeping her alert and going, I think she is going to make it! I'm sad we lost our other ones but I'll be happy if she can make it through♡

Yeah, she sounds pretty bad. And with maggots you can get fly strike , which you can read up on under topic of the week. How is she now? Are you treating her with anything?

She is alive! I am treating her with with vetrycin (hope I'm spelling that right)
She will for sure be blind on one side but she is eating,drinking and this morning was very vocal ! I have her in the laundry room still from heat and flies until her head is healed more, we let her out to the pool for an hour each day and she swims. I think if she gets through this week with out infection or flies -she's gonna make it!!!!!

Where is hurt?I would wash it thoroughly and really look at the wound, I know scarlet oil spray helps with flies and infection( my advice comes from larger animals,but this is how I treated my little duck this week)
Go to your farm store and get fly spray to keep them off of her.
If she's hurt , treat the wound(I used vetrycin) and either wrap it or get it somewhere away from flies until it heals.
There was lots of helpful replies on my this thread to read through.
