Coon Massacre

I used bbq to catch a raccoon once. Cat food didnt work. MF would push the trap out of the way to get the dry. The cans Id find outside. It would reach and grab the can and take it out to eat it. Got it on camera.
So i put the trap between two bales of straw snd used bbq. Worked like a charm. He/she didnt leave on its own accord.
If you do trap one you have to take it 20 miles or more away because it will be back. If you cant dispatch because you either cant or are not able to use something legally to do it, find a freind or someone willing to do it for you.

Also, for the love of....
I 100% advocate for killing them but PLEASE do be aware of the small but real possibility of rabies. By this I mean, sorry to be gross, do not wack the dang thing with a blunt object because of possible spray (there, I said it, sorry) with a 22 you can stand far enough back to avoid this but if you can't use a weapon in your area either drown it, freeze it, I don't care. Cruel? Well, Death isn't fun for anyone.
Just use gloves and keep yourself safe.

You do not appear to think much of your fellow posters.:tongue

I'm so sorry fo you :( I lost quite a few to racoons over the course of my owning chickens. It's absolutlely horrible how much damage coons can do. I don't think i'd ever lost as many as you did in one night, but I had a big attack a while back where I believe I may have lost 3 hens. When we finally caught the coon in a live trap we got someone to relocate it for us.

but this is surely better than having no chickens!!!!
After all...they do deserve it!!
The coon is running on instinct, and technically do no wrong, so it may not neccasarily deserve it. However, that does not make humanely killing it wrong, and if that is the only way not to lose chickens it is certainly preferable, so I agree with you there.
