I think it's a great idea, especially if you live in an area with a lot of predators like I do. I don't have a cam yet, but plan to add one, or at least a baby monitor.
Well if you are crazy I have joined you and love it. I put two cameras in about 6 months ago and love it.
Well let me back up. I found an add on craigslist and I guy had them and would install them for a decent price. I have one that will pan around and I can control it from any computer I am on. the other camer is stationary and I would not get that one again. I will post the information on the camera the guys installed. I have a wireless router and you acess the cameras through your computer IP address. That way you can from any computer through the internet. Funny thing I was away one weekend and my pet sitter was to go up at dark and make sure all chicks where in the sleep coop and shut the door. There was a storm coming and I had not seen her show up yet...she did not know about the cameras because they were new that week... I waited and finally texted her to see if she had checked ont he chickens... Well Nop she was heading right up....and I saw her entering the coop. Way past dark and at risk of preditor at that time. We had a talk when I paid her. She has been the best sitter ever since.
I have friends that I have given my IP address to so they can watch the chickens. It is the best.
Here is the info on my cameras: whoops I will try again.

I had them put in in the spring so it has not gone through a winter yet and south may not get as bad as other places. But as long as it stays dry It might be okay. The stationary one is an outdoor camera and I was told it still does better out of direct rain and weather. An as I think the ones you see ar often under and overhang of some sort. They are pretty cool.

Added 2 more cameras today [now x6], with a special cam for my nesting box. The purpose for which is to capture which chicken laid the egg, the time, etc. The motion detection feature will be used. I'll also see the expression and hear the sound when the event happens. October is my first possible egg laying month. I'm working on a spreadsheet to track the laying. Come over and check them out. The coop lights will be on a while longer. Thanks! --jim

Can you give us some idea of costs for the cameras and stuff and what it would cost to have it all installed and hooked up? We have wii on one of our tv's inside our house already.
