Coop Done!!!! Picked up Chickens!!! Now... ?

I have my first broody right now, so I can totally relate to checking on them every hour. The rest of my chickens look offended that I'm not bringing treats.

WHAT!!!???? You dare to go to the coop without treats....even if you go every hour they still NEED treats! At least that's what mine tell me.

Ah...so pots do the same in Idaho as they do in Texas then! Amazing!

Since I am living vicariously through others right now, feel free to share how well your ladies are adjusting to their palace.
(and how well your kids are still keeping up with their litterbox scoopers)

P.S. I couldn't resist!! My son was disappointed when he went to bed that he didn't have his watch (dead battery) to set the alarm and get up early. I assured the kids I wouldn't go outside without them. He was very happy with that!! Today, he cleaned the scoops, took the poo to the garden and washed out the bucket the poo was collected in. *They are doing great so far!!! I am very proud of them!!!

Tonight upon returning from church, the girls were all in the coop, except 3 were perched on the popdoor sill, since we use a playhouse window as the pop door. I had one BO that was already on the roost (way to go for her) and one that made its own roost on the feed box, I knew I needed to add some plywood between the studs so that wouldn't happen!!! Once I got the other 5 up on the roost they seemed happy. Its funny, they run from me during the day if I want to pick one up, but both nights to get them on the roosts they have let me pick them up and set them up there with very minimal squawking at me. We will see what they do tomorrow.... If my 2 year old only went to bed so easy!!

UrbanChick101, Your chicken house/coop looks great!!! I love having the kids so involved too. I have 2 granddaughters living just down the road and they have been deeply involved with my chickens from day one. Just cracked me up thinking of you putting your girls on the roost!!!! It took mine a few night before they started to line up on the roost at night. They were piled 2 deep on top of the nesting boxes. And I do mean piled! I have since added another roost so everyone has their space.

We put my chicken house where I can see it from the house. Hubby wanted it on the other side of our garage but I want to see it! It's a hop, skip, and a jump out there and that I love. I am out there often on my egg watch. I have chairs and foot stool out there just for our evenings chicken watching session when I let them out in the yard for a couple hours. We're out in the country on 10 acres. And hey, if times got tough I'd be looking at getting a cow too! Hubby would fall on the floor laughing if he read this statement. He wanted to get me a cow in the early 70's, when I was new to the farm, and I said no way! Now I'm thinking hmmm............

In the small window, 4 of them piled on there, when I went to grab one that was sleeping on the floor, she jumped right on top of the pile, I couldn't even see one of my Australorps!! I wish I would have taken my camera, my kids were inside tonight, too many bug bites!! I was trying to hold a flashlight and do this at the same time. There aren't very many flat spots in the coop to set my little flashlight, finally I stuck it in a crack where the ceiling meets the 2 x4 . I can't imagine if I was trying to hold my camera too ~ But I missed out on a funny photo op.

I too wanted my chicken coop where I can see it from the house.... outside my bedroom window

Some people think I am crazy, but you know... it comes with having chickens!! We have about half acre in the city, multiple, multiple neighbors, I could have put it down at the bottom of our yard, but that seemed to far away. I wanted them close, so I could look at them if I wanted!! I wish I would have put thier pen more to the house side, although I still have a pretty good view from my DD's room. When we were looking to buy our first house and this house 6 years ago, my husband tried to convince me to move to an acreage, i wouldn't think of it. Too far out from town, and so forth... well now with my chickens, I asked him if we could move!!

He laughed at me!!! My two year old wants to bring a cow to our house now too, I don't think the city or my Husband will approve. And I really wouldn't wanna clean up after a cow in the yard. I would like to get a goat or two, my 7 year old wants a sheep.... Maybe in 10 years we can move he said.

So until then, I will be happy being allowed my 6 chickens that live here on a yearly permit.

We will have a small place for them to free range, we don't have but 3 ft, and 4 ft chain link around most of our yard and I don't trust the neighbors dogs..
