which is why one should ask for pictures of the parent's when buying hatching eggs...

There are those who will scam you and show other people's pictures too though.
I really am not such a negative person, but I know scammer exist in all facets of life and the livestock world is not void of them. That is why so many people put their farm name on their pictures.

I am quite surprised at how many people have contacted me this winter to see if I have laying hens to sell. I can't think of too many breeders who keep extras around over winter unless they got late in hatching some the year before and have more than they need after they grown enough.

I had a known breeder on BYC that said they would sell me some birds. I said not without many photos and some with you in them. They then refused, gave me excuses and that was the end of the conversation.

I don't care how nice a persons birds are or how many ribbons they have when you buy chicks or eggs you are only really buying a chance at getting a show bird. I have hatched close to a hundred DCs last year and have 2 pullets that I ended up with that I would call show quality. I know some only sell birds that are old enough to tell if they are good quality and never sell eggs or chicks and I get that but I prefer eggs and then go from there. Sometimes though when I want a particular line I will buy an adult if that is the only way to get them.

I do agree that the more people raising a breed the more the breed benefits from that and better birds are always the outcome as competition for the perfect (SOP) bird gets more competitive the better the birds become.

Dark bantam. As noted....pictures don't always tell the whole story. I didn't take this picture and don't know why the wing looks like this, but it shows the body well. Best and Res of Show were Cornish bantams. That doesn't happen often.

haha y'all think Cornish are expensive and hard to get ahold of... try the Kulang (really big) aseel... 500$ is cheep for one bird i had a breeder offer me a really good trio for 2000$ needless to say i still don't have any lol...

As for Al in Oklahoma u just have to get to know him... if he likes u he will give you the shirt off his back or some of his best birds... but he does not have time to mess with fools, noobs, or ppl that annoy him... not aiming that at anyone just stating a fact... after 4 or so years of talking to him i consider him a good friend and a great guy...
