Coronavirus, Covid 19 Discussion and How It Has Affected Your Daily Life Chat Thread

Ya. Me, my wife, my children, my siblings, their children and my mother.
None of us have died in our lifetimes and I want to keep it that way. I don't want any of us put at risk of this virus because ignorant people want to have their heads up their @$$ES and not see the severity of this virus and be more concerned about getting out and having their nails done or to go out to a restaurant to eat because cooking a meal at home is just to much trouble.
You could just avoid such people. It's what I do here; not that I get out much.:p
The thing is this virus isn't going to go away, neither are stupid people. You can't legislate against stupidity and unless you're prepared for full state control like China, the piecemeal approach that is being practiced in many countries isn't going to give good long term results.
Every reliable source I've read suggests that unless we are incredibly lucky an effective vaccine is two to five years away if one is found at all.
It seems to me that it has now become my responsibility to protect myself from the virus; the state cannot be relied on in the worst affected countries.

While I agree it is each individuals responsibility to protect themselves the best they can....and that everyone dies at some point.....my goal for myself and my family is that they do not die a horrible death.
This virus is one that I wish on no one here or overseas. It is a horrible way to go.

I plan to self isolate....been doing that for decades.
I will continue to wear a mask whether everyone else does or not. Even if it "does not protect the wearer" (which is completely illogical to me).
Even a 10% reduction in germs getting through it is still a reduction.

Do I think everyone should go skipping down the street holding hands singing merrily? No. I have never thought that in my whole long life.

Crap happens....try to avoid the splatter.

Shouldn't people be responsible for themselves anyway?

Then there are the healthy young people who die of this too.
Very few apparently. It's just when someone young does die testing positive for Covid-19 it gets to be a major story. I have no idea why and of the couple I've read it was later given that the young person had other health issues.
I'm not suggesting that Covid-19 isn't a serious problem. I'm not lacking in empathy for those who have loved ones die from the virus either. I am rather keen on keeping a rational outlook.

anyone know if this is accurate 1587657551307.png

So where are you'll getting masks and what is a correct mask?
Sorry I don't know anything about them except there's none to be found in my area.
I will order some online but want to know I get some that will actually help and not get price gouged.

N95 masks are very protective when worn correctly, and are not to be found right now, and will be expensive.
There are helpful sights about making masks at home, including which fabrics are best to use, in fact there are some threads on this site too. Tightly woven fabrics, double or triple layered, and a snug fit, all matter.
Then, keeping it on, and not messing with it at all when out there, and taking it off as the contaminated object it is.
For me it's second nature, after decades wearing them in hospital. It takes mindfulness, especially at first, and I see new wearers outside making every mistake possible.

I had a box of masks that I gave my hubs to use. When those are gone it is going to be the ones I make at home.
Perfect?.....no. Better than nothing at least.

I am using 3 layers of my best quilting cotton and building in a pocket for disposable filters.....if I can figure out hat filter material is best then that pocket is there.

Fit matters A LOT. I have found some patterns absolutely horrible for fit.

I am using this pattern and find it fits well for hubs while I had to decrease the size for myself.
