Coronavirus, Covid 19 Discussion and How It Has Affected Your Daily Life Chat Thread

I am probably not going to say this very well so please bear with me. A person may have "underlying health issues" and live for many years. Like heart disease, diabetes, obesity. Maybe they even smoke or have other risks. They could live like that for 20 or 30 years. But then they get Covid-19 and die in a matter of days. Did the virus kill them? Would they have died that day if they did NOT have the virus? Should they be included in the Covid-19 statistics? Or is it more accurate to say they died of the other risk factors? Does the fact that they had underlying factors change the fact that they died of coronavirus? What did they really die of? It seems to me the statistics are just showing that Covid-19 was a factor in these people's deaths. Maybe they would have died anyway. But the virus WAS present when their health crashed. Their lungs failed and they died. That's statistically significant.

I think like 80-90% had other risk factors. That's a tough question

Since it doesn't transmit via digestive system (it's a respiratory virus after all, and thus far no cases of it being transmitted via food) not sure what lemon or other acidic foods/drinks are supposed to do to it? Did your pharmacist explain the logic behind that, like is it supposed to change the Ph in your blood or something?

(Though if it keeps you off of soda that's not a bad thing either!)
The lemon doesn't do a doggone thing but make it taste good ... and that's enough benefit for me! :)

My mom is trying to be safe but she works at Wal-Mart so she's pretty nervious about that.
Every Saturday she stops by to see my little one (5 years old) she's so scared that she will bring it to us without knowing it that she stays outside the gate in our driveway and we stay inside about 10' apart.
It is breaking her heart not to give kisses and hugs to him when she leaves. They blow kisses and wave goodbye and sometimes sign I love you. Then she drives the 40 minutes home in tears.
Man that sucks to know and maybe explains some of my passion against those that don't get the big deal about this virus.

She must know she's high risk. Good for her. Lots of kids' kisses to come!

As some of you will remember, my daughter was hospitalized with a stroke 4 days ago. I thank you for all your warm thoughts and kind words, and wanted to update that she is back home now. She only had mild covid symptoms but she had a stroke, and is having a hard time talking/communicating. They say this will get better the more she talks, writes, types, etc. Kind of like rebooting the brain. She's only 39, and was in absolute perfect health. Has anyone else heard of this happening to other covid sufferers?

I am so sorry!

I did see something on the morning news about just that thing. They said that it is obviously affecting the brain but to what extent is unknown.

I wish her a full recovery. I am so very sorry she is going through this.

So sorry this appened, but glad she is doing well enough to be back home. Yes, just heard this virus attacks the body in more ways than just the lungs. One way is blood clots. Can be in legs, lungs, heart or brain, maybe other areas. They are still learning about it. It is so new and weird. Hope your daughter recovers completely! :hugs

Edit, typos.

I heard about a similar situation on the news this morning. I think it was a famous person but it was their mother that had it. Sorry I don't know the whole story but I recall she was not young and was quarantining at home when she had the stroke. I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: I tried to find it but there is just too much to sift through to find it. If you type in Covid and Stroke a lot comes up. I found at least 3 stories though saying that it is causing blood clots and strokes in young adults.

Well most of the ones I've looked into require fencing, especially with certain breeds (like I've never seen a greyhound rescue not require a fence).

We have some pretty decent shelters around here though, clean and pretty well staffed, so I mainly stick with the shelter system. There's one rescue that I've adopted from that doesn't generally require fencing (her requirements vary depending on the specific dog's needs, which is how it should be.) Main problem with shelters here is there's a
super high turnaround - dogs get snapped up so quick! The last time we were trying to get a dog we had 2 different dogs adopted out from right in front of us (we were the next person in line to see them, the people in front of us took them).
That makes sense! Although I find a lot will say they require a fence, SIL’s did, but if it’s a good home they will sometimes let it slide.

That’s good your shelters are good though!!!

Around here there aren’t usually tons of dogs but theres definitely some and the shelters seem decent. But here we import a lot from the south hahah

Dogs seem to be in shelters forever though :(

The imports usually get adopted pretty quick I think but not always haha
