Finally reached SUMMER VACATION! here in Central Florida in my county. WE haven't had many shortages for things especially necessary items for the past month besides the obvious (hand sani, and wipes..). Although, literally...almost every thing we typically buy has been brought up a few cents to a dollar or two. My husband works for a manufacturing company that builds sets (theatre, art installations, artistic work for the theme parks, etc.) and they travel all over the states, including the Bahamas. He won't return to work until after June 30th so he's projected to be back to work beginning of july.
It's really taught me my lack of patience is NOT the healthiest. And, im a total pushover. I really loved having the children home with me, seeing what they're doing at school and being more involved in their daily life than I have been since they were Pre-K'ers. I have a 6th grader and 2nd grader..although, the baby still needs me some he's still like his brother - independent. strong. bullheaded. hot headed. basically me in child form. my eldest is my sweet compassionate boy but still with an insane hot head with raging pre puberty stink involved.

Most people are wearing masks, respecting others and being kind. I am a Florida native and like most of the country we seem to be really strong during adversities when we join hands. Florida with our terrible unemployment system has made a lot of people who wouldnt typical volunteer start to do so. Community is really strong with social distancing.

Most faith in humans have been restorted but I much prefer my dogs and the company of my little cluckers who greet me every day.

WOW! That shot ... and that fellow ... are jigsaw-puzzle-worthy! he's GORgeous!
Thank you. :hugs
I can't take any credit other than decent feed. He was an oopsie roo.
However it's the first time in like 10 years I'm going...... :fl Please don't turn mean...please don't turn mean...:fl ....cuz if you do your gonna be gone.... :fl...please don't...

He is a nice looking boy and will be the poppa of all of whatever hatches out of the bator in 2 weeks.

I'd say at LEAST $20, especially if you paid for the chicks and shipping. Your buyer would have had to pay for all of that, so figure it into your cost. If you both ordered, then split the shipping charges. The cost just to ship a started pullet is ridiculous ... anywhere from 25 to 50 bucks, depending on where you order.

A good quality, young adult around here starts at $25.00 or so. Proven show winners can go higher ... depending on the breed, MUCH higher! Someone offered me $50 for my BIS Nankin roo two years ago, but he wasn't - and still isn't for sale, even at twice that.

I just sold six three-month-old production crosses for $15 apiece, and I'm only doing that because the fellow is taking all six. Marans are a specialty bird, because of the super dark eggs, and yours was a custom order. If you had to raise extra cockerels, too, to make sure you got pullets, figure that in. So ... figure your cost per pullet, add in the vaccine and the cost of the cockerel chicks you need to do something with ... then add or split the shipping.

I'm not trying to gouge people, but I don't want to lose money just to make it convenient for somebody else. The lady who told me that I really should be giving these girls away for free because they were no longer little and cute ... and then added that she didn't want to raise "little and cute" for herself because it was too much trouble and the brooders were too expensive ... really made me MAD!!!

That's exactly what I thought about that lady that wanted started pullets for $5! She didn't want to invest the time, labor or expense to raise them herself, but neither did she want to pay for you investing all that in them! I thought that was really selfish, entitled and unfair. Glad you told her no. I paid $15 each for pullets about 5 years ago. Having raised chicks a couple of times now (that I bought as day-olds) I agree that $20 to $25 is reasonable depending on the breed and quality. I would pay that now to get good, clean, healthy birds of good stock and not just barnyard mixes.

Breathe BBH, just BREATHE! You did the right thing by putting off your overzealous SIL. Once you've got yourself settled, you can find whatever she's looking for, leave it on the front porch and call her ... with a terrible headache that's sending you straight to bed, so "Please, don't ring the doorbell or set the dogs to barking ... I'll catch up with you, later!" ;)

Thanks, @MROO, I did, lol! Take a deep breath, I mean. Then I found what she wanted, texted her to come get it, put on my mask and met her at the back door, where I stood and visited with her for about 15 minutes. Did not let her in. So it's clear to her now that, regardless of what anybody else may or may not be doing, we are continuing to protect ourselves.
