Exactly.By your command, your highness. ....
I'd say at LEAST $20, especially if you paid for the chicks and shipping. Your buyer would have had to pay for all of that, so figure it into your cost. If you both ordered, then split the shipping charges. The cost just to ship a started pullet is ridiculous ... anywhere from 25 to 50 bucks, depending on where you order.
A good quality, young adult around here starts at $25.00 or so. Proven show winners can go higher ... depending on the breed, MUCH higher! Someone offered me $50 for my BIS Nankin roo two years ago, but he wasn't - and still isn't for sale, even at twice that.
I just sold six three-month-old production crosses for $15 apiece, and I'm only doing that because the fellow is taking all six. Marans are a specialty bird, because of the super dark eggs, and yours was a custom order. If you had to raise extra cockerels, too, to make sure you got pullets, figure that in. So ... figure your cost per pullet, add in the vaccine and the cost of the cockerel chicks you need to do something with ... then add or split the shipping.
I'm not trying to gouge people, but I don't want to lose money just to make it convenient for somebody else. The lady who told me that I really should be giving these girls away for free because they were no longer little and cute ... and then added that she didn't want to raise "little and cute" for herself because it was too much trouble and the brooders were too expensive ... really made me MAD!!!
Breathe BBH, just BREATHE! You did the right thing by putting off your overzealous SIL. Once you've got yourself settled, you can find whatever she's looking for, leave it on the front porch and call her ... with a terrible headache that's sending you straight to bed, so "Please, don't ring the doorbell or set the dogs to barking ... I'll catch up with you, later!"![]()
Ben would be calm too, but I'm the one who usually starts the wrestling moves.![]()
I had trimmed and capped them long ago, and keep them short.I'm trying to imagine wrestling with a rooster ... what about them spurs, then?![]()
