AMEN! to the CPAP. I used to borrow my husband's CPAP during the day when I was in respiratory distress. Does his have a water reservoir to humidity the air he's breathing? Also sessions in a steamy shower if that's a reasonable possibility.

Stay ahead of it as much as possible!

And absolutely consult the doc before using the inhaler. ...but I'm glad to hear you have one. Even so, one with a steroid may be called for. So far, steroids are the most reliably effective treatment.

Yep, his also adjusts its pressure automatically. When he's awake again I'll get on him about doctors info.

I wonder what the long term effects of this pandemic phenomenon will be on a generation of people who did and didn't get sick, who did and didn't lose loved ones, who did and didn't have a chance to form social groups in school. This is something that strikes so profoundly on life as we experience it that I think they will be a generation that carries an identity for the rest of their lives like we Baby Boomers do.

I know other generations have identities too but sometimes a event comes along that shapes everything ever after. I think your daughter is part of such a group and I hope knowing that she's not alone in the hundred little and larger assaults on her life helps her approach it with some equanimity.
Have a chat with any POW survivors? Or watch a few documentary on their lives afterwards...

It's like growing up during a World War or The Depression. Covid affects nearly every decision and action we make (or don't) these days. It's likely to play a part in every one for the next couple of years, as well. It HAS to make an impact. It's going to be up to us all to make sure these kids get through and past it. Now, if we can just start making sure of the same things for ourselves and our own, we may all stand a chance.

FYI on the "Doctor's Info." When we first came down with covid, I asked every medical person I knew or could find for information ... and got lots of vagaries. My pharmacist nailed it when he told me, "You can't find any reliable information because there isn't any!"
So ...
  • Hydration is key. Not only does it keep your body healthy, but it washes the virus into your stomach, where the temps and acids kill it. Everyone else in the house needs to do the same thing - lots of warm, room temp drinks - just a sip or two every fifteen minutes helps.
  • Gargle with plain, warm salt water - again, this is for everybody in the house.
  • Mucinex is your Friend! (generic is fine - it's just guaifenesin)
  • Get one of those finger oximeters, like the one your med tech puts on the end of your finger. A little battery powered one designed for sports is great. Monitor the %. If it gets to 92, call the doctor. If it drops below 90, go to the ER.
  • Steamy showers and hot tea are wonderful!
  • Tylenol - no Ibuprofen or Naproxen - and the usual "cold remedy" stuff. DS lived on generic NyQuil.
  • REST! If he wants to sleep all day, let him. Just make sure he's eating (we did LOTS of chicken soup) and drinking.
DON'T PANIC. Most people come through this just fine. It's not fun, but it's survivable. Aside from the flu-like fatigue, it's like no other illness I've ever experienced. I kept waiting for something dramatic to happen, but the beast just kept revolving around lots of uncomfortable symptoms ... one right after another.

So sorry you had to come by this advice the hard way!!!!

Honesty - he's doing OK right now. Sleepy mostly, lots of aches and headaches. Some dizziness too. His fever is all but gone now, he's hovering around normal to 99*F medicated.

The one good thing - for THIS bout of COVID at least, both D and G get paid time off for 14 days.
But we're wondering - if D doesn't get it this time and then catches it later, will that be covered too?

Early this week there was a sudden unexpected death in the family. The 47 year old husband of one of my nieces had a heart attack and died as he was getting ready to go to work. He was a good guy and stabilizing force for this family. There is a viewing tomorrow - 1-2 for the elderly or immunocompromised. Masking, distancing will be required. The feeling me feels an overwhelming need to attend. The rational me says - you have isolated from your immediate family for an entire year - stay home. Quandry. The Princess says she will abide by whatever I decide, but if I go she is going. :barnie

So sorry. I'm sure you will make the right decision for you and your family.

Well, it's here. My husband tested positive for Covid. He's been mild to moderately sick for several days. I tested negative, but I assume I am, or will, be positive. We're okay right now. I finally signed up for grocery delivery and we don't think we've infected anyone else. (though we recommended a few family members get tested just to be safe) Sigh. 🤧

Sounds like we're in similar boats. <3 Best of luck!
