I thought this was interesting. I have thought since the first lockdown here in Catalonia that this probably wasn't the best way of going about minimizing the impact of the virus.
The large data spikes shown in the who died from Covid here during March were the result of people being released from hospitals inot care homes where the checks on Covid were laregely ignored.
Have a read, make your own minds up.

I don't see that that's a new approach. ...tho I wouldn't be surprised to hear that I'm misinterpreting.

Eventually, (key word) herd immunity is what will protect people and return things to authentic reality. Until then, along with or enhanced by vaccine-stimulated immunity, we need to practice immediate avoidance strategies in an effort to resume public behaviors like reopening schools at the earliest opportunity.

I think that's pretty much the strategy most countries are pursuing. Meanwhile, Sweden which committed to the herd immunity concept from the start and failed to shut down has pretty much declared it a big mistake, no? What am I missing?

Totally off subject here... but remember our ginger discussions? The organic stuff I planted and it grew well?? Well I had to bring the pots in for the winter and most went dormant so I dug in the dirt the other day in two of the pots and discovered the ginger more than doubled, maybe even tripled!

...and I know the rest if you are like what's snappy talking about??
After googling how to grow ginger in pots, I bought some plain organic ginger from a local upscale grocery store last Jan or Feb, planted it, and was rewarded with nice tall plants that almost bloomed (ginger takes forever to bloom!) and now I have plenty of ginger growing to cook with and will never need to buy ginger again.

Fresh ginger is freezable, or I can just break off a nub from the main plant whenever I need some. Ginger grows well in pots and can be brought inside for the winter.
Easy, and peasy.
I've got several pots in dormant protection, in pots.... About to make some small pot starters on a SS rack with room for seedlings to boot here in the coming weeks....

Hope you can snag some picks from the dug up growths....

OK. I'm intrigued!

What do I have to do to start my own backyard ginger plantation? I'm in a dry Mediterranean climate with dense clay soil but I have some above the ground veggie beds with actual soil.
its about as difficult as making a cup of Hot cocoa. (giggles)

remember above all else sunshine is paramount and as @ChocolateMouse says.... keep watered but, don't drown them. Maybe we can get CM to share a recent picture or two or a late shot from a while back? I might have time tomorrow during day light to show what my late fall experiment reached before going dormant?

ETA, i have a few buds sprouting on the countertop that I plan to experiment with - as said above.... I'll likely be able to snap some picks as i put them in pots...

I can't believe I'm doing it again! I have eggs coming. I'm going to hatch .. during the cold months. I will have new layers earlier this year. That's if...the eggs don't freeze before they get here. I'm excited to be getting some Nn eggs. Crossing fingers for a couple of hens from them.
I have been banned from hatching for this winter/spring season. NO MORE until I can thin down the ranks and finishing fox-proofing (as much as that's possible) the Bachelors' Run. It's left a huge hole in my world (the ban ... not the fox.) This will be my first winter without an incubator in years ... and I'm having withdrawal.

I'm managing, for the moment, but only becasue I have a secret ...

I think my Zelda is going broody ... oh ... gosh ... darn ... NOT!

Not intending to start an argument but genuinely I don't understand people sometimes. On a sister site there was a thread much like this one. I calmly pointed out some flaws in what somebody was saying and got jumped on by multiple people lol.

A direct quote in response to me. "Live in fear is you must, but please don't try to shame others into living the same way. No one is endangering anyone's life by not wearing a mask and no one is saving anyone's life by wearing one."

stuff like this makes what happened today so unsurprising. We really, truly are beyond reason now aren't we.. sigh. Since when did staying home more during a pandemic become nonsense lol. Also since when did wearing a mask not save anybody's life? I guess people would be fine with their surgeon not wearing one lol. I'm so confused anymore. And with all this said, i may even get jumped on for saying this here because it's somehow controversial.
Consider yourself officially "jumped on," but not for voicing a controversy, ... for a hug! We're all in the same boat, here - confused by the naysayers and doing our best to keep ourselves and others safe. :hugs
