I thought the booster was only being approved for certain groups.
"Eight months is the mark officials pinned for the booster timeline regarding mRNA vaccines, but it’s yet to be seen what they will decide for the viral vector shot."

Looks like the rna vaccines efficiency is tapering off so suggesting booster for everyone.
The J&J hasn't been out as long so they are unsure about a needed booster that and so far looks like working pretty good still.

"Last month J&J said new data demonstrated the shot induced a strong neutralizing antibody response against the delta variant, and that protection lasted through at least eight months. The data showed the shot demonstrated an 85% effectiveness against severe disease, hospital and death."

  • People who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 because they are more at risk of serious, prolonged illness.
  • People with moderately to severely compromised immune systems may not build the same level of immunity to 2-dose vaccine series compared to people who are not immunocompromised.
  • People who have compromised immune systems may benefit from an additional dose to make sure they have enough protection against COVID-19.
  • CDC recommends people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised should receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine after the initial 2 doses.
  • This additional dose intended to improve immunocompromised people’s response to their initial vaccine series is not the same as a booster dose, given to people when the immune response to a primary vaccine series is likely to have waned over time.
  • CDC does not recommend additional doses or booster shots for any other population at this time.

"The Biden administration will begin offering coronavirus booster shots the week of Sept. 20, top health officials announced Wednesday, after concluding that a third shot is needed to fight off waning immunity.

Officials said the decision was driven by data showing a decline over time in the vaccines’ ability to protect against less serious disease; evidence that boosters work and that more protection may be needed against the dominant delta variant; and a desire to stave off any potential decrease in the shots’ effectiveness against severe illness.
The officials said the plan would only be implemented if the Food and Drug Administration approved boosters and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisers recommended them.

The federal government will also direct all nursing homes to require vaccination for staffers or face loss of Medicare and Medicaid funds — an escalation by the Biden administration as it tries to get more Americans vaccinated amid the delta variant surge."
