I walk the dog every other day but thats about all the exercise I get. We do a half to a full mile depending on the weather.
There is a one-tenth mile track around my house. If I am very careful, I can do two laps and still be able to do it again the next day. Goal is to be able to walk a mile or two, or even someday, (gasp!) run again! Tendons take ages to heal. 🙁

Quitting's tough. Advice to non-smokers: DON'T START. not even vaping. Nicotine may well be most addictive substance known to man. In my ignorant opinion.
I quit drinking 29 years ago - not saying that was easy, but quitting nicotine was the hardest thing I have ever done. The Princess forced me into a promise on that.

I lost about 35 lbs for my wedding doing Atkins. I had to quit most carbs. I still miss bread and french fries. And potato chips....I cheat a little more now that I dont have to squeeze into a big gown but after I cheat I fast for the majority of the next day to make up for it. I usually dont get hungry until around 1pm now and I wake up at 6 am. Ive gone from a size 22 to a size 12 but it took me a whole year. Im about 15 lbs away from being a healthy weight for my height.
Congrats on a very realistic and positive pattern of self health & strengthening. Slowly loosing weight over a long period is much more akin to “permanent” as you train the body to adjust and you metabolism & organs get used to the pattern and before long it’s an entirely different *you* on the inside running smoothly.

one phrase I’ve shared here in BYC several times but, it bears repeating:

moderation in all things, including moderation.

/end of line.

I tried cigarettes, back when it was 'in style' and found they tasted as bad as they smelled. UGH! So, fortunately, never hooked.
My dad quit one morning when i was about six; threw his first morning smoke into the john, said "I'm tired of this morning cough" and never smoked again. Inspired me ever since!

That’s semi-parallel to how my Grampa quit.

Back in high school. Our senior year Civics class was taught by the head football coach. He was a Korean War veteran. How he quit was on the boat returning to the states…. Sitting on the fantail of the boat talking with a few of his group he started to add up the money spent on cig’s while he was over there & up to that day. He’d realized he’d spent enough on cig’s (from when he started) to have had enough to buy a brand new car in cash when he got home. He was so pissed at himself… he held onto that pack to remind himself how long he was going to have to save up once he was stateside to get a new car.

never smoked another cigarette out of that pack or any other ever again. (I had forgotten when he said he’d thrown them away.)
