Im hoping someone in the medical field can answer this question: dentists tell you not to pick at your teeth but thats exactly what they do during a cleaning. Doctors tell you high bp and pulse is bad but exercise does both and is healthy. I'm confused by the double standard here and I know we have some folks here that can answer this

Good questions. Not sure about the dental question but I suppose it is because they're afraid you will pick off enamel trying to get off plaque and food.
Exercise will raise your heart rate but it is also conditioning your muscles, heart and lungs to handle more stress (exercise). The problem is when you have a high heart rate or blood pressure WITHOUT that stress. (Athletes usually have a low resting heart rate because they're in such good condition).
HTN is almost as bad as diabetes for the organ systems it can damage. The sliver of good news is that there's probably more BP medicines than for any other disease. If what the Dr puts you on is not working, or has nasty side effects, work with the Dr to try something else.

Edit: Sorry, HTN = Hypertension = high blood pressure

Thank you for the clear explanation!

"So how has Covid affected my daily life?" We've social distanced, we've masked, we've been vaccinated and boosted. We've applied basic animal husbandry tactics to our lifestyle. We are back to seeing family, judiciously eating at restaurants - we've even been going to movies and plays in venues applying common sense constraints. So far so good. Not so much as a common cold in the past 2 years. For someone with hermit tendencies it's not so bad. The Princess is far more social than me, but she is doing okay.

My last two associates with Covid - Jesse is dead and Ray has Afib that they have been unable to control. Ironically I think back to a field trial almost a year ago. Ray asked me why I was wearing a mask in a crowded clubhouse. When I replied, "Out of respect for others." he became irate. Screaming at me that the virus was a hoax and Fauci was a fraud and that one day I would have to admit this to him. I bit my tongue as he and Jesse were judging the field trial - coincidentally my dogs did not do well. I don't see the need for admitting anything to him. I just feel a profound sadness. Especially over Jesse's death.

Common sense, respect, minding your own business rather than that of others. Where has all of that gone? Covid has brought the best and worst of human nature into the open.
It's sad.

At one point, about a year ago, I was still very cautious (still am but more relaxed)... gloves, mask, hand sanitize everything, and enforcing my kids to wear their masks properly (which I still do - I like the masks). But someone made a comment about me being too much. Whatever. But my heart broke when that person and their whole household caught it within a week after having their two cents about what I'm doing.
None of them suffered but the individual had it the worst. It didn't change that person's attitude towards it.
I don't care if someone is or isnt vaccinated, I would never wish illness upon anyone. Here I am trying to teach my children how to mind their business but, there are some adults who haven't learned that 😔

There are some that may never learn it, unfortunately. You do you and worry about your own. Lifes too short to be worried about how other people behave :hugs Ive been told I'm "too much" before all this happened. Id carry around wipes with me and sanitize my hands constantly. No one is making fun of me now.

Unfortunately it's not temporary for everyone. I now have to take Bystolic to control my heart rate and beat. It's been over a year.
I'm in the middle of tests to figure out just how badly Covid messed up my lungs and joints. Apparently there is no real "Covid Did This" test, so the process involves a long series of existing ones to rule out other causes. Heart checks out, next are the lungs. Be careful, everybody. This isn't "fun" in the least!
