Not really. Id say more like they dont want to give away the more expensive free phone. So they limit the stock in the store and sell the less desirable and cheaper phone as the free one. Or simply get you to wall into the store to buy a different one thats twice as expensive because you cant find the free one. Not conspiracy so much as nasty marketing
