According to "The Experts," it's an all-too-human reaction to feeling out of control. The stack of white rolls makes us feel like we have a little control when there isn't any. We see the same thing around here for snow ... ANY amount of snow ...
Your reply makes as much sense as anything. But why toilet paper? What makes me feel nice and secure is a full freezer and a well stocked pantry. Toilet paper, not so much.

ALSO, there is greed. Hubby saw a man on a corner in our town just a bit ago, with a sign announcing TP for sale, $10/roll.

I have to go out again today to run the remainder of my “Friday” errands which includes feed run and grocery pick-up. will see how things go!! (as there have even been rumors of ppl hoarding dog food in case of an apocalyptic food shortage!)

After sitting on these threads all of yesterday, I decided it would be prudent of me to get more dog food (we had enough for about 3 more weeks). For reference my area has pretty much been on voluntary lock down for 3 weeks now. Went to a local store that's been keeping their website up to date with inventory issues (none so far) and new shorter hours. The store was well stocked, workers were busy cleaning and restocking. We picked up our usual month's supply without issue.

Someone told me that 90% of North America’s tp is produced in China for the cheap labor and esp. poor environmental regs, so the run on tp started because trump is/was/will be closing the borders to Chinese imports. Is this true?

From what I've read (source: yahoo, so take it as you will) in the US only about 10% of toilet paper is imported from China.

For all you sweet young things out there under the age of 35, look it up and plan your garden. Anything to take the stress off the system and insure your own food supply.

I'd recommend this for anyone of any age that can get out and do so. It's still too chilly where I am to get anything substantial going, but by May I'll be completely rolling in multiple types of vegetables. It'll get you out in the fresh air too!

Since this is a chicken forum after all, I'd think most folks on here have the space to set up a small vegetable garden. One of the best things you can do for your family in times of uncertainty.

My daughter (FL) & nice (HI) just reported "feminine" products are off the shelves also. Time to improvise, told them disposable diapers or even those disposable bed pads, cut them up.

Last weekend I had a sore throat, low grade fever ... Monday called the Dr, tells me no need to come in unless the fever got worst. So gargled with warm water & Hawaiian (rock) salt, drinking lots of warm tea & took cold tablets (which are sold out) for a couple days. Better yet find drinking anything cold affects my throat.

Its sad since our Kupunas (Srs) have a limited income, can't stock up and now can't get what they need. Those hoarding to make a fast buck should all be hunted down and "tar & feathered" ... oops my age is showing.

Yup, went out and got an extra bag of dog food but not able to get any Flock Raiser until "maybe" later part of next week. I've got enough in the freezer for another couple weeks but being on an island, shipping gets disrupted with weather conditions. We've got two storms back to back this coming week ... I usually stock up during the Winter/Spring months because of this.

Before going out, pour 2 1/4 cups of water, and 1/4 cup of bleach in a cake pan (10% bleach solution). Now tear off a paper towel, and lay it flat in the solution, then another on top of the first one, then another. When you have a sufficient quantity for that day's outing, take them out of the bleach water, and gently wring them out a little. Now, put them in a zip lock bag, and don't forget to take them with you. You've just made sanitizing wipes.

While this general concept is a good one, I work in a hospital and that ratio of water to bleach is way to strong. If the sanitation mixture is to strong or to weak it renders it useless. We have testing strips at work we can use to make sure it is mixed correctly, but after years of doing it, I'm pretty spot on when I make it. For a gallon of water it's about a 1/4 cap full. So for that small amount of water I would say just a drop would do pretty close. I will test it out at work tomorrow and update this. Because as I said the idea is a great one.

More people die every day from opioid overdoses...or the flu....we are not a bit worried about a glorified cold virus....since the "common cold" is a virus, after all.....

Overdoses aren't contagious and Covid-19 has a much longer incubation period than influenza, drastically increasing its ability to be spread within the community. There is a lot known about the flu and you can be vaccinated against it every year. For Covid-19 so very little is known at this stage. It is of great concern to those in our communities who already have underlying health conditions.

This is a very good article explaining why we should be concerned: https://www.vox.com/science-and-hea...ovid-19-coronavirus-worse-than-flu-comparison

I’m saving a half bottle of vodka just in case I run out of bleach. 🍸🙂
