Thank you for posting this. This is the ripple effect. I don't think most people understand how interconnected things are or the impacts levers have (the butterfly effect?), but this video explains this instance in a very easy to understand way (in my opinion).

I saw someone posting about meat processing plants closing. Yes, some have, but there are almost 900 plants in the US. That's 18 plants per state!! It will take a lot more than a few closing to have a real impact.

In the video, I kept expecting the first mostly black cow who walked up to reach out and swipe him...was not expecting the mostly white one that came up later to be the one.
As a kid I always thought, and still do, how funny it feels being licked by a cow or a calf.

Now I have a horse who loves to lick. He doesn't have a sandpaper tongue but he does have a constantly muddy face from grazing near the creek.

I feel lucky....sort of.... Our icky wal mart has lots of meat available while the standard grocery stores and the nicer wal mart have very little. That means there is at least an option for now.

A couple of weeks ago the meat areas were empty here. Now there is plenty. The panic buying only causes short term shortages (longer the farther from the city you live).

I bet the people that buy 10 loaves of bread are so sick of eating bread by now. They get moldy what, after 2 weeks?

I have a Ford windstar that needs a transmission rebuild... I would need something to test it after the rebuild right? Before installing it back in the car.

Dairy farmers are producing milk but processing plants are having to dump it.

I'm not familiar with Michigan's situation other than Trump having singled out Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for very personal attacks. Meanwhile, regardless of whether there's personal animus or the governor made mistakes -- again I'm not familiar with that situation -- the citizens of Michigan still have a right to expect full cooperation from their President.



We can disagree about whether the President or Gov. Cuomo is a more reliable source about the availability and price of equipment. The fact that governors are beginning to rely on one another in preference to the federal government strikes me as conclusive.

Meanwhile, the fact remains that there has been stunning dismissal of the circumstances in favor of magical thinking at the federal level.

Note that he was aware of the emergency in January and didn't even begin taking action until March. That's a long interval in which real planning and equipping could have been going on.



Here we can again agree to disagree. Maybe the Secretary of the Navy wasn't acting on Trump's orders in replacing Capt. Crozier. Maybe writing a letter or chain of command are more important considerations than 5000 sailors in close quarters being exposed continually to Covid-19. Maybe this is the only time this will happen. Maybe the confidence of service members everywhere isn't shaken by the firing of a commanding order who tried to protect his crew.



Again, in Trump's own words:

OK on this one. I concede that he used the word "miracle" and I interpreted "magical". Still, it was fuzzy thinking based on the idea that he can make things happen by saying them. Lives have already been lost and will continue to be because of this neglectful lack of response.

You can only pressure test an automatic transmission out of a car, Revolutions of the engine will tell if the gearing works. I wish you good luck.

...and I though the admins deleted that post ages ago. I'm not even sure how it re-appeared. But I'm not apologizing for it even if I've restrained myself since and think is ridiculous that adults can't discuss politics along with race, guns, personalities, hurt feelings and everything else we've covered.

It's an important topic and people here have behaved very well -- admirably even -- through tensions and disagreements. Ample evidence, I think, for letting people decide for themselves what's appropriate momentary drift of a conversation.
