I don't go by guidelines for freezing meat, if it still looks and smells good, no freezer burn its good. Anything else gets cooked up and fed to the chickens, they'll eat anything lol.
Yrs ago guy I rented from, hung out with often, his mother died and when they cleaned her house out found 10 quarts of 12yr old canned venison. He says 'do you think it's still good?'
Hold my beer!
It was all good :drool

Let's just hope I don't have to get my nose poked for a while. I've done the test for flu twice and Covid twice. My nose is stuffed up still from them doing the test.

I call it getting your brain cells tested, because that's how far they go to do the test, at least it feels that way! I've only had 1 flu test done and that's enough for me.

Yeah, I used to raise heritage turkeys and a couple of times I found that the fatty parts would start to get a little funk to them (technical term...) after about 18 months in the chest freezer so I learned to not freeze them whole, but rather in parts.

Oddly enough in my searching, some people swore that if you coated the freezer burned part with cool whip while thawing it was fine. My guess is it was the oil/fat they were after and maybe mayo would also work, however I think I'll skip that whole idea.

No hope for more caribou? Is it forbidden to hunt them, or is this something you brought from another location? What about online ordering?
(sorry, never had it, so I'm totally caribou ignorant)
We used to go every winter to Quebec, it was very affordable and fun, but the herd has declined severely in just a few winters mostly due to global warming affecting when the rivers freeze that they have to cross. So the Quebec hunt was shut down. You can still go after caribou in Alaska, northern Alberta etc but only if you have a spare $20 000 lying around, and I don’t. For that price I could go on safari in Africa and get 7-9 different species, and I know a couple of people who have done just that!

Maybe if I sell more eggs.....

Most of the posts I read here and on other social media forums are all about me; I want, I'm getting, I'm worried, I need support and the very fact that these posters can access the Internet and go shopping indicates to me they have absolutely no idea of what doing without means.
There are a few heartening stories that may restore some faith in humanity in amoungst all the political hate and personal greed. This is one of them.

Not sure what that other breed is. Bantams are loud! They're mouthy too. I have 2 cockerels out of 7 bantams.
My bantams (Nankins) aren't as loud as the bigger birds, but some of their crows can be piercing, which makes them seem three times as loud! I have one older fellow who likes to crow right underfoot ... I swear he sounds like a steam whistle going off in my ear!

I agree there is a difference between needing and wanting. During this time we should be focused more on others instead of self-preservation but sadly many of us don't do that

Interesting choice of foods Haha

Speaking of grilled cheese sandwiches...have you ever tried them with pickles?
We used to have those every Sunday after church.
Pickles! Yes! My DS - now grown - "invented" his favorite sandwich back when he was three. It's a "Bologna Tortilla Pizza Sandwich." Bologna, shredded cheese and pickle relish sandwiched between two flour tortillas, buttered an grilled, then sliced like a pizza. He's now over 6 ft tall - and he still loves them!
