Good afternoon,
Due to the COVID19 I’m teleworking, so far things here at Virginia are okay. As a matter of fact some people believe this is all hyped and they are carrying on with their life’s as nothing. On another note, I started ordering eggs and hatching, no joke I got like 30 peeps on my third floor and two full incubators! My husband took the initiative to build another 2 coops! Anyone else chicken math out of control?
Yup mine sure is except I just got rid of 10 chicks. And all my other chicks are sold before they even hatch.

Is 3 chicks out of control? Can't believe I'm letting hubby talk me into adding more. :D

I saw ppl with gloves no mask!! 😳

That sounds like me, my hands are still cold! At least I don't touch my face, gloves or no gloves.

@KDOGG331 I've been dealing with Marek's disease in my flock since 2016. It's heartbreaking but it isn't the end of the world. Like @folly'splace said, your whole flock is exposed if indeed your roo does have MD. You may have others turn up sick/die but they won't die. Those that don't die are worth their weight in meal worms. Those are the birds that are the foundation of your future flock.

I last bird I lost with obvious Marek's disease was two years ago. My losses have finally slowed down but I had to make the tough decision to cull my original flock, who were all carriers.

I also agree that you need a firm diagnosis before you do anything extreme.

Good luck. If you have any questions, PM me. I'm always willing to help.
Thank you!!! I really appreciate this. In your experience/opinion, can they recover from Marek’s once they have it or should I just cull him? I will if I have to but I’d like to know what it is first. My dad and brother are pretty gung go/insistent I just kill him ASAP all of a sudden just because they read a few articles but I’d like to know for sure that’s what it is. Does he have to be dead to test him?? I really don’t want to risk my other birds or let him suffer and feel like I should just cull him but if there’s a chance he might recover then idk. I will be making a new thread in a second and posting some pictures and videos of him so maybe you or others could help confirm this is what it is??
@KDOGG331 I'd cull immediately. Then sent him to be tested. I'm sorry you're dealing with this :hugs
Thank you. :hugs does he have to be dead to be tested? :(
@KDOGG331 also DO NOT SELL any of your chicks because it'll infect others flocks. Wait until you get the test results back.
X2
No selling imo
Oh yeah, I wasn’t planning on selling these babies anyway. They’re staying. But that said, they are also inside the house and have never come in contact with any of the other chickens so I doubt they have it.
I wouldn't even go to someone's house that has chickens if it was me. I'd feel mighty guilty if I endangered someone else's flock.
I don’t know anyone else that has chickens 😂🤣🙈 was gonna go to the feed store at some point but I’ll hold off on that.

If you've been in contact with your other chickens and then interacted with those, I wouldn't doubt if they have been exposed because of the chickens dander...

I honestly haven’t really interacted with or touched them much other than changing the food and water and I wash my hands before and after I do that. They’re also in the glass tank. But I do wear the same clothes and shoes so I suppose it’s possible, though I do go out a different door. But they’ve probably been exposed too I guess. But I’m not selling them anyway. Especially now that I might have to put Red down. I want at least two boys so I’ll probably keep one of the Cochin bantams. I just hope Jack and Wilma don’t come down with it. :fl they are not vaccinated either. The new babies are.
