Give it a week and stores should be restocked. I stopped in our local WalMart, yesterday to pick up a knee brace for DD and was amazed at how empty the shelves were ... of LOTS of things. We wandered around the store a bit, mostly out of curiosity, and got another surprise. Dairy perishables were priced ridiculously low - butter for $2 pound, 18 large eggs for 71 cents? Of course, we bought some of each. I distinctly smell chocolate chip cookies in our near future!
We have critter- and people-food. We have our cell phones charged. We even have TP . We are as "prepared" as we can and need to be, so we are enjoying our Sunday at home (no church services today .) This is where we plan to stay until we see which way the proverbial wind is blowing. We will stay aware and alert, but we absolutely REFUSE to panic!

Those of us who care more for the human condition then the state of the economy...

You need to step back and think about what you're saying. Caring for the state of the economy is caring for one's neighbors. Most of the increases in public health and well being over the past century or so were due to betterment of the economy that allowed for better sanitation, nutrition and personal hygiene. The last thing we need is economic instability that threatens those things.

Will somebody, anybody, PLEASE tell me why people are hoarding toilet paper. I can see piling up foodstuffs. I do the same thing because I don't like to shop so I do so as seldom as possible. But why toilet paper? I have seen carts piled to the brim with rolls of toilet paper, bottles of water, and paper towels but very little in the way of food. When I went to the grocery store a few days ago, the paper towels, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies were all but gone but there was plenty of foods of all kinds. I an hoping someone can explain it to me. I don't get it.

Considering that this is happening in the US, UK, Canada and Australia and probably other non-anglo countries as well, I would assume that there is social media or mass media hype going on. This hoarding doesn't make sense since what media I've read have urged caution and advised people not to hoard. I don't watch broadcast/cable TV, just stream TV shows and movies from my computer to the TV when I use it. That's to say, I get my news from news sites. Maybe TV news is different or I'm not hooked into the right social media.

I live alone. I have a small house, so hoarding is not going to work for me. It's annoying. A 12-pack of toilet paper will last over two weeks. Now I have three rolls and even buying a small amount means hunting from store to store, or using tissue paper or paper towels until stores restock.

And for those who depend on drugs, you really don't want disruptions in the supply chain that prevents you from getting your drugs from China. That's where most of our drugs come from. Spite the state of the economy and you're spiting yourself.

The collapse of our entire infrastructure (i.e. roads, water and sewer systems, etc.) are likely not going to collapse from a global pandemic. That is of course as long as we have PEOPLE to keep things going. I just can't wrap my head around someone that loves an institution more than fellow humans. I guess I missed out on that day of school when that was taught. Perhaps I'm doomed! I'm done now, crawling back in to my safe little bubble. Sorry, my medications don't come from China. Be careful with generalizations. And please don't post a list of where drugs come from, that would be really boring and a waste of time. If we all want to know, we can look it up for ourselves.
