I have to admit that yes I’ve become a bit panicked by this situation. The escalation of hoarding and closures etc have the potential to make my life very difficult! I have always purchased my supplies/groceries etc by the week to month in a JIT fashion. I was astonished this week as my grocery order pick-up was delayed by 2 days and I still don’t know how many items may be out-of-stock. There was a “run” on our local butcher shop yesterday which prevented me from placing my usual monthly package order. We spent yesterday grinding and processing the remainder of our venison and i am thankful that I have a backyard full of ready to process meat! This type of panick, however, tends to foster thievery and increase in crime! that has become more of an immediate concern to me than the possibility of running out of tp. I have to go out again today to run the remainder of my “Friday” errands which includes feed run and grocery pick-up. will see how things go!! (as there have even been rumors of ppl hoarding dog food in case of an apocalyptic food shortage!)
The hoarding and shortages will most likely decrease soon. After the initial "panic" has settled down, life will return to normal. Perhaps a bit more slowly. But it will return. As mentioned in a previous post, the best thing we can do is focus on what we can do and not on what we cannot do. Self care is important and reaching out to others who are in a more precarious position will help you stay focused on what really matters. Take care and stay healthy.

I'm just hoping Pokimon died with that virus! :lau :gig

So this really is a question we need to be asking about the people who are suffering most from this disease: What were their lifestyles like before getting sick? Were they smokers, drinkers? Makes a big difference.
Makes a big difference? To those of us worried about catching it, yes. Yes it does, if only because knowing that we are not among the high risk population does nothing but curb fears. But we need to remember that it makes a huge difference to the affected and their families.
So remember the "Even Ifs"
.Even if
this bug is only dangerous to "people other than us." Even if it only hits people who didn't take the best care of themselves. Even if the bug never touches anyone we know, the rest of us need to do everything we can to slow this nasty mess down. Buying time so that the medical community can find a way to beat, or at least control, this beast is our best defense.

Agree, but not to the point of taking down the economy.

If I havn't contracted it by now, I'm safe! PTL

The FDA has a list of drugs that are in short supply or critical supply. The list is scary and I had to finally stop looking at it in order to lower my stress levels.

As a whole the US has become too dependent on foreign production of critical ingredients used to manufacture drugs due to the low labor costs (slave labor, sweat shops for example).

Granted if we take over the production of these ingredients and or items stamped "made in China" prices will go up on drugs and commodities. But that is the price of independence and security when times like these crop up.

I want to thank everyone for posting on this discussion. It has been both educational, stimulating and at times amusing.

Like I said before, I am pretty worried. My father in law is 80 and has copd, so if he gets it, it will be bad. He is currently living with us for the time being. He is a hyper guy, trying to keep him home is like pulling teeth, hims never runs outta energy!
And the hubs has bullos lung disease, so if he gets it too, then that could end bad.
I'm ready for all this to be over.
