OK, but just so you know that it's a real health concern and not some xenophobic rant, 70% of TB in the US occurs in immigrants who bring it from their home countries where it is endemic. TB is the #1 infectious killer in the world, so this is a real national security issue.

And just so you can know that I'm not making things up, here it is from your friend and mine, the CDC

in 2017, 70% of TB cases were diagnosed in foreign-born persons in the United States, as opposed to 30% in 1993. In cities that are home to many newly arriving immigrants and refugees, rates of TB can be well above the national average. Additionally, the prevalence of drug-resistant TB or extrapulmonary TB cases, which are more challenging to diagnosis and manage, is higher among foreign-born persons [2]. Studies have indicated that reactivation of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), rather than recent transmission, is the primary driver of TB disease in the United States, accounting for >80% of all TB cases [2].

It's about time. It needs a doctors order but near where I live....

My understanding is our restrictions are more dramatic than anywhere else with a similar number of cases. But these are good things.

I'm going out today, winter allergy cough and all, to a gathering of about 20. I took my temp this morning to be sure, 98.1. Healthcare workers take temps twice a day during flu season. I figure it doesn't hurt to do before you go out.

The elephant in the room is if the virus outbreak happened in China how is it that non Chinese immigrants have brought it to Italy?

It's not that non-Chinese immigrants brought the virus to Italy, but that immigrants in the country have latent TB that they brought from their home countries. The high number of cases in Italy is almost certainly due to the hundreds of thousands of Chinese in Italy working on the Belt and Road Initiative. Italy is the only country in Europe to sign on to the BRI.

I am considering how fast this could spread if fast food employees go to work sick. And how many people eat fast food daily.
my ds waits tables at 2 different restaurants here in town.....they are now making them wear gloves while serving and are disinfecting like crazy.....if they touch their face at all, they have to go and immediately wash their hands. He was sent home early today because with churches cancelling services and no events scheduled, their Sunday traffic is really slow.

kroger did not inform me of out-of-stock items on my list after making me wait 48 hours for pick-up:mad: no toilet paper, only 1 pk of paper towels, no tissues......and no notice to check other places! when i made my feed run, I got the last bag of meatbird feed on the shelf, and last bag of my dog food brand!! i won’t even mention trouble finding preferred brand of feminine necessities!!!

The US is a country of immigrants. My father's people came from Germany and migrated to Pennsylvania where they were known as Pennsylvania Dutch.

Half of my mom's people came from Ireland and were known as Black Irish.

She used to like to say that the other half of her lineage was standing on the shore waving their bows and arrows at the people getting off the boat...

Unless you are 100% Native American, we are all descended from migrants. We are all after all the great melting pot of the world.

Time to put the petty arguments behind us and come together as the country of brave, courageous, daring individuals who never back down from a fight be it a pandemic or an armed aggressor.

Together we are unbeatable! We will survive!

Re the toilet paper thing:
Someone told me that 90% of North America’s tp is produced in China for the cheap labor and esp. poor environmental regs, so the run on tp started because trump is/was/will be closing the borders to Chinese imports. Is this true? I’m not sure, but it sounds more likely than other reasons I’ve heard. I do happen to know that only Royale is made in Canada, and I also know that until recently a lot of pulpwood (used to make soft paper products) was shipped offshore....to China presumably.

No that's completely false. 90% of the toilet paper that's sold here is from North America -- the US, Mexico and Canada. https://www.al.com/business/2020/03/toilet-paper-manufacturer-in-alabama-says-they-wont-run-out.html
