Hope you have a good gathering despite the circumstances.

We have precautions at our house where no one comes here besides us. I can't risk my health at this point. My husband showers and throws his clothes in the washer instantly when he comes home.

Thanks! I'm young and strapping (mostly) and so are most of my guests so I don't feel too bad bringing people in right now. I did mention to people that they should stay home if they want to or feel unwell. I've been taking my temperature regularly to monitor for a fever - the most telling symptom. I also told them I'd have goodie bags of soap bars and a roll of TP if they need it. XD

I'm young 33, but I have pre existing conditions so I can pretend I'm invincible with this circumstance.

Totally fair. My sister is only a couple years older than you and needs to self-isolate because of her pre existing conditions.

I have a history of pneumonia, but I'm otherwise totally OK. My mental health is actually my biggest concern and friends and a holiday will help. :)

My mental health has been all over the place with this. I have family in a few states and it's stressing me out, which isn't helping anything.

What holiday is it?

Be careful, though. We just got a notice from the Superintendant of Schools that two - count'em, TWO - students attended a gathering yesterday where another guest had been in claimed to have been in contact with someone who had the virus. He notified EVERY school parent in the district about it, to reassure us all that at no point had any of "our" students come into direct contact with an active case.
I'm glad he did, as it gave me a chance to warn my two that the only place either of them has to go is to work - and one is already home from there indefinitely. The two fools who went partying have been warned to self-quarantine (and you can bet that their neighbors are all enforcing it!) The school system will "monitor the situation and respond accordingly." Can you spell, "School's Out Indefinitely?" I'll bet we'll be able to do it, shortly!
The really sad part is that the kid probably made the contact up to get a reaction from his/her buddies. They were doing that in our middle school, last week. The Kid Who Cried Wolf just got his/her tail clipped, BIG TIME!

We now have 131 cases in Colorado. The newest case is in a county that borders ours. Give it a day or 2 and we will have our first case in our little town of 2000. Let the fun begin...….
We have our first case just one county over, as well. Although the area within our official boundaries had about 3,500 people at the last census,
I'd guess that the actual "townies" number about 1,000 ... maybe. As in most rural towns, everyone here pretty much knows each other, or at least knows "of" each other, so we tend to look after our own. That's getting harder, but we're doing our best.
As of 5:00 pm, today, Monday, all movie theatres, gyms, restaurants and bars are required to close at 5:00 ... indefinitely! Take out and curbside restaurants may remain in business, but no dine-ins.
It's gettin' real around here, folks.

When this is over there will be two vital questions to answer in order to prepare for the next crisis.

a) why did people buy toilet paper in such large quantities? Was there some unreported effect of the Covid virus that loosened the bowls? There could be a partial explanation in that everyone living with any grasp of reality was constantly shitting themselves at the exponential growth of the virus (It's worth understanding exactly what exponential growth means) this could be remedied either, by sticking your head in the sand, or switching off your computer.

b) how bigger stock of toilet paper is needed and whether or not Fort Knox should be emptied of gold at the first sign of a crisis and refilled with bog roll, as some like to call toilet paper in the UK.

I hear you, FortCluck. This is new and challenging but we'll get through it.

Do you have family or support near you to call on for help? Do you have immediate supplies? Don't forget that you can get most stuff online if there's something you need and there's the possibility that grocery stores in your area will deliver.

Make a plan for how you'll spend your day keeping away from others to the extent you can. Taking care of your chickens and whatever other animals. Reading? Hobbies? Having this much time really is a luxury we can all indulge once we get over the discomfort of "restriction". The computer will be your window to the world. Explore new things. Stay abreast of what's happening re: Covid-19 but just to know, not to let it take over your world.

Meanwhile, we are here to listen to what's going on and offer what we can. We'll all get through this together. People faced the Black Plague in medieval times without the medical and social technology we have. Altho it ravaged Europe, people survived and went on to create the Renaissance (re-birth!) and push their technology by leaps and bounds.

There's an opportunity here for us to evaluate what works about our society and what doesn't and make constructive changes. Although there may be short-term pain -- and maybe less than Europe because we can learn from what they experience before us -- this WILL BE an opportunity for growth and a new start!
