You live 30 miles from a gas station or grocery store!?

Lol, we live about 30 miles from the nearest town big enough to have a Walmart or other grocery store big enough to do our weekly shopping. There is a gas station about two miles from us, and a Dollar General for emergencies, which we practically never use. Because we are so isolated, we can have all the chickens (and roosters) we want. It's quiet and private here and we love it. We can't see or hear any neighbors and they can't hear us.

My husband FINALLY apologized to me for all the times he teased me about having a chest freezer full of meat. It's the way I grew up, so to me, it's normal. My parents, Just the TWO of them have 2 refrigerators and a freezer full of food. I call my mom a food hoarder!!

I'm pretty much the same. I try to keep my pantry full. I have some canned items such as vegetables, protein such as fish, chicken, pork and beef, shelf stable milk then all my home canned fruit, jams and vegetables. I also keep TVP and quinoa on hand for shelf stable protein. But there are items that need to be purchased more frequently. Normally when I get ready to open my last container of something like soap or paper products, I replenish right away. That's not working right now.

Yup, same problem here. I need dish soap before long and can't find any of that. Frustrated for sure!

The only cleaning product I found was the fluffy Swiffers for the floor. I know it's bad but they are so great for a quick cleanup and being allergic to dust, they make it a lot easier for me. The only soap was bar soap, so I got one box (2 bars). I don't think they did any restocking before they let us in to the store. And when I went into the produce department they were just bringing out a cart of produce. I won't say fresh, because I've found old, ready to expire stuff there in the past. However, apparently no one is buying chicken. There were some awesome prices for whole chickens. I picked one up. That will go into the freezer. If I can, I will try my regular grocery store tomorrow morning. That is a chain that has their own warehouses and distributors. They are always restocking and their customer service is outstanding. I didn't go there this morning because they don't sell the garbage bags for my town. I am getting a low on laundry detergent and dryer sheets. I buy that like once every 6 months. Well, hopefully tomorrow.

Yup, same problem here. I need dish soap before long and can't find any of that. Frustrated for sure!

I found some recipes for making homemade dish soap on YouTube, seems pretty easy. If you can't find any. I started making my own foaming hand soap because I was going broke buying it from Bath and Body Works!

OMG! We must be related. So do I. I call my basement "my grocery store." I even keep bags down there to carry things up. But really. The refrigerator in the basement is for juice, eggs and things that won't fit in the kitchen fridge. And I use the freezer to lay trays of stuff flat for freezing before putting into freezer bags. And I will admit, I am a food hoarder. I just never learned how to hoard paper products.

I freeze a lot of the produce from my garden and take advantage of the specials on meat. I also make my own bread and butter and freeze that as well. So I actually need the space. I had to go from a little chest freezer to a large upright. Now I can actually find things in there.

I have a big garden and mainly eat chicken and turkey I raise. I have 4 jakes still running around because no room in freezer camp
