Before this really kicked off, my sister would go to the park with her one year old son who is half Korean and she said people would look at her son and try to steer their kids away from him. He wasn’t even sick or even remotely sick. This was weeks before the first social distancing in America. They obviously haven’t gone out now, but I hope her significant other who is Korean won’t be targeted when he goes to the store. The funny thing is he was adopted as a baby by American parents so he’s not even “from” Korea (and not to mention not from China and even if he was it’s wrong to discriminate).

    That's sad..

Being frank here, they're super scummy. Always have been. They treat you like garbage if your insurance isn't very good. When my mom had cancer they threw her in a room with three other people while she was scared and ashamed and naked and couldn't control her bowels and her only privacy was a curtain and those awful gowns. They tried to keep us from having more than one visitor at a time. Then the doctor came in announced that she was dying of cancer and had three months to live without treatment, dropped the clipboard and just left. If you have good insurance or a lot of money you get a private room.
I've had friends who worked there and they would regularly send out "You're fat" letters to people who weren't even that overweight. If you were outside your "ideal" BMI they sent you a letter being like "You failed the weight part of your health exam! Lose weight and we'll give you a $50 gift card!". Management "encouraged" people to follow through... Or else. They also demand TONS of overtime from their staff.
The ONE good thing they have going on is they pay their (paid) staff REALLY well. (They take advantage of any unpaid internship stuff they can whenever possible.) And for that reason they get some really top notch doctors. But everyone is angry all the time there and those top notch doctors are absolute wankers, especially to the lower staff. I've heard a lot of horror stories. But they also actively court these doctors to win awards for research/surgery/innovation so they can claim they're the #1 hospital in the area based on that rather than based on patient experiences. There's a lot of bribery going on too.
But they're just HUGE. People call them Fort Clinic. And they DO have really high tier facilities and doctors. They just treat everyone like trash.

The other hospital is the best hospital I've ever been to and they are super sweet even in the ER at 3AM. But they don't pay as well and their billing system is a mess. They don't have the tech or facility size of the other. They're also a teaching hospital so they get a lot of young blood instead of experienced top tier world renowned doctors. But I'd take them over the other any day of the week. Our hospital system is kind of crazy.

The hospitals are oblivious not on the people's side. My friend was having problems giving birth and the hospital wouldn't treat her and said to just go home and let the baby die. She wasn't gonna give up so she went to another hospital and now she has a perfectly healthy baby.

We're good here so far. I was referring to the status of the thread. :lau We come close to crossing the line, but most appear to be rational. Of course there are several on 'ignore' option. :p Numbers in NY this morning show the highest mortality so far. :(
Whew. You scared me there for a second.
Don't DO that! .....**wags finger in your direction**

They didn’t actually tell her to go home and let the baby die right?? I know hospitals are swamped with this virus, but new life is far more important since they are the future!!

That's a lawsuit. Hospitals must take in mothers in labor. Federal law

So in January, which is what I asked about, it was called COVID19? Are you sure about that? You might wanna check again.

I spoke with G about this tonight and he got super mad. Last week he had to call the cops to have someone removed from his store for trying to assault some rando asian guy that was shopping. I know when the initial restrictions on gatherings went into place he had to write up *two* employees for complaining about the management allowing asians in the store. Full on "I can't believe management is still letting 'Those People' shop in the store!" level racist. He said it's about every three shifts right now he has to de-escalate a situation between a really ignorant customer and some random asian person that's usually not even Chinese because some Karen felt the need to blame every single asian in the world for a virus that's in almost every nation. That means this is a day to day experience in his store.

So. How do we best go about protecting those asian people now? Not to mention people like G who have to de-escalate that violence. And what sort of language will just reinforce that level of ignorance?

Cause thinking about how to protect people who aren't white matters too. Which is why I listen close when people use language like that and why. Especially when they're supposed to be keeping ALL of us safe, not just some of us.
There is nothing you can say or do that will fix stupid!

I see this on both sides though. It’s not just one side. I’ve seen people attack politicians or whoever for saying or doing something but when their preferred candidate or party does the same exact thing, silence. Selective outrage and ignoring the facts or only listening to what fits their narrative and agenda happens on both sides.
One of the reason's I don't claim either side and never have. Just give me the pertinent information. I can think and decide for myself thank you.

(not directed at anyone here...just politics in general)
