But meant to ask... what last death??? I haven’t had any deaths or even sicknesses in a long time???

Unless you mean the hen from July??

But she was almost 4 years old and had no signs of sickness at all before she dropped dead so I really think it was just due to the heatwave we had and her age.

But even if it was something else, it was well before I even hatched these guys and she’s vaccinated so I don’t think it’s related at all.

I know some people swear that pineapple doesn't belong on a pizza ... but those have obviously never had a bacon/pineapple pizza!

Any idea how close another farm might have to be? I don't have any other chickens around that I can hear or know of...


This has me wondering about Mareks, which to my knowledge I've not had in my flock to date. Only one time, many years ago, did I bring adult birds into an established flock. Since then it's been chicks under a week old that I've ordered or bought locally, or have had a broody hen hatch out.

Can chicks from a hatchery bring in Mareks? From what I can find, probably not.

I would and I moved to Indiana. I found no literature that it was Florida only . And believe I looked. I always prepare. I have 2 coolers in boxes and a box of freezer packs. I have the information sheet I would have to fill out. I did this because if I don't know why they die, I want to know. Recently I had a healthy shiny normal Polish hen just drop dead off the roost. I'm guessing heart attack.

Right, but can the babies pick it up within the first few days of life going through whatever they go through at hatcheries? Or at say TSC while waiting to be bought? In previous years my TSC had the bins in a big dog kennel so no one can handle the chicks. This year they have the tall tiered thingy, where one could touch a chick while it was eating if they really wanted to because the feeders are on the outside.
Are these areas of concern because we all know those of us who already have chickens love to stand there and watch them in the spring. Or least we did pre-Covid.

I brought 5 hens with me when I moved from my old farm (never any problems there) but they have passed from old age since then and I've only got hatchery ordered chicks, now grown birds, and two adults I got as chicks last spring from TSC.
