I haven't had a coyote issue, but I do have raccoons. My dog recently lost a piece of her ear to one.

Dog --> Minus one piece of ear. Plus one rabies booster shot. Plus one whole package of smoked turkey. Plus lots and lots of praise.
Raccoon --> Minus one life.
Ducks and one chicken --> Safe and sound.

P.S. My pen is covered to protect from hawks and owls. Recently I re-covered one part. You should have seen the hawks circle when they saw the cover down!!! I've never seen so many at once. (The ducks were safely in a different pen for the day.)
Wow that’s a good dog!!! And that’s crazy they knew it was uncovered!!!

I was going to say maybe they could see the chickens in the pen but Duck Hill says it was ducks and they weren't in there. So how smart are the hawks, to know ducks live in there under that cover, and maybe, just maybe, one might show up while the cover is off and they might get lucky? I mean that's kind of scary smart.

Right!? I was thinking the same thing!!! Maybe they saw them but not if they were in a different pen. That is definitely insanely smart!!!!

Hawks are incredibly smart. They will also hunt in pairs as a team. For example, one will appear to fly off. You relax and stop watching the babies. But the other was sitting in a nearby tree, waiting for just that opportunity, and now they swoop down and get one. (Didn't quite happen to me - almost! But I didn't relax my guard when the first one flew off.) Another day the hawk, who had been trying to catch my babies each day, stayed away. I stood by the babies for hours and there was no threat. At 4:00, I almost went to sit, leaving the babies on their own. Almost. At 4:15, the hawk came down the street incredibly low and fast, and was upon me in seconds. I was right there, so he did not get a baby. But almost...

Well, it appears one of my posts was removed for being "political". Is that because I said the govt is bumbling idiots not evil genuis? Only remotely political thing I remember saying.

That's absurd. I'm out of this area of BYC, I'll stick with impersonal bs in the other forums. Enjoy it without my "political" posts. And I won't miss such lameness.
IDK? Was looking for a comment of yours you quoted me, read it yesterday was going to respond but busy. Tried to find it today was wondering what the heck happened to it. I don't think it was even the one with bumbling idiots comment. Don't remember anything political in it, or at least nothing offensive :confused:
