I don’t know if I even remember Call of the Wild
Call of the Wild ... The dog, Buck, lives a sheltered life until he is dognapped and sold as a sled dog in the far North. It's a hard read for dog-lovers, in spots, but it's an EXCELLENT book!
White Fang is the same way - hard and excellent all at once, but both books will leave you thinking!

Me too! I started novels at a young age and it plus Call of the Wild were my favorites. Well, those and every fictional horse book ever written since I was a horse crazy kid. Still have my entire collection of The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley.
Yeah, I read the horse books too. Seabiscuit too.

Old dog stories? Anything by Jim Kjelgard (sp?); Big Red, Irish Red, and more.
Jack London could write!
Really good SF? Lois M. Bujold!
Mary
Close! It's Kjelgaard - my absolute favorite author, growing up, well, maybe tied with Walter Farley! And then there were the Lad: A Dog books.

That movie made me cry so hard!!! Old Yeller too!!! And Fox & The Hound 😭😭
Yep, Old Yeller, Fox & the Hound and Homeward Bound! Gosh, I had forgotten all the dog books I've read. Cats too.
Of course who could forget Charlotte's Web.

Went into isolation super ill beginning of March, while ill work shut down... I was so sick, so hard to breathe for a month, spent another month recovering... Finally started feeling normalish in May... June 1st Work called and my whole department told to get to work June 2nd... my employer has us doing security to keep homeless and looters away from schools... coworkers did not know how to find if I was alive or dead... I am still rebuilding my muscle and endurance.
