As bad as the ICU is for oneself (BTDT) it's far worse seeing your child in ICU/PICU.....BTDT too and hope I never have to do it again!
Well I am someone’s child... we all are. My parents have watched me code before.

When I was a baby I stopped breathing and my father gave me CPR till the ambulance came. My grandmothers dog kept flipping to get their attention.

Last icu episode I had was in January with sepsis. I had a seizure in the mri machine.

Worse time was getting an ng tube last year because my intestines twisted.

My post was not meant to minimize your experiences in anyway.

It was meant to add to the collective voice...if people can shrug off the idea of themselves in the ICU (which many seem to) then perhaps the idea of their baby/toddler/child or other loved one in PICU or ICU might give them pause. Having been on the receiving end of both, I can say watching a son or daughter in PICU fighting for their life was much worse.

I saw my dad in life support for a month and that scared me.

I didn’t mean to make my post sound like I was saying you were wrong. I was agreeing lol. My parents have that feeling and tell me all the time how scary it was to them.

so many people have relied on government for their living needs--housing, medical, food--for years. Now hard working people are out of jobs, can't pay bills. The system can't support everybody!

I mean, we have the option to transition to a new system that can. The resources are there. I'm sure most of us have heard the statistic that we produce enough food to feel the world 2-3Xs over, it's just a matter of distribution? The same is true of homelessness in the US. There's enough unoccupied houses in america that each homeless person (not each family but each PERSON) could be assigned an entire house (not apartment or bedroom but a whole house) and have a lot left over. But it would take a massive overhaul of our existing system to allow for housing those people, with lots of social services, etc.

It would be challenging but it's theoretically very possible. And it could actually be cheaper in the long run too.

You are one tough woman! :hugs
I don't think that I could take all that... being stuck in the hospital with an IV and catheter was bad enough, and that was one time -- I don't think that I could do it repeatedly.
Or, at least, not without feeling like a complete burden because of all of the medical bills....
Anyway.
You are very tough, FortCluck.

The hospital treats me like a VIP so I always have my nurses every time. I give them all eggs and they love it. They let my dogs visit too

My Dr runs the Cardiac and Pulmonary ICU and that’s where I go usually. With sepsis it was the regular icu and I danced when I left there 😂

Covid reality check. DD just called from her BF's house in PA. She got a group text from work. One of the bus-girls there (high end restaurant) just tested positive. I'm off to find a place to get a rapid-test done, tonight, then I'm off to collect a very frightened young lady. She's not worried about Covid - she's worried about her BF's parents hating her. They hate everybody, even their son, so what's the difference? I'll check back in later, if I can. I'm posting this in Kiki's Freaky Friday Thread, too so some of you may see it twice.
