Well, what's it called when the stallion travels to the breeding farms where the mares reside? He's still an intact boy doing his business because some breeds do not recognize AI.

Though to be fair, the farms where horse owners keep breeding stallions are commonly called stud farms vs where as the mares and foals generally reside on breeding farms.
And farms where both reside it is often said "stallion 'So and So' is standing stud at farm XYZ."
It also depends on the animal. "Stud" can used to label animals other than horses, or more correctly, stallions. So :tongue

Been doing it for years, but events of late have me focusing more on it because since moving it's been easier to find what have needed and both my garden and livestock spaces are smaller than they were.

I was just about to post the same reports. It's even on faux news...wonder if anyone of that persuasion will pay attention.
The information itself is mind numbing...less than 500,000 people attended and it's responsible for over 250,000 cases so far and some deaths already. Nearly 20% of all of August's cases.
There are just no words...
From my Covid Tracking class ... Covid-19 infection rates are calculated using the same equation applied to influenza - Plus Two. Translated, that's two new positives from each case of Covid. Each new case infects two more, who then infect two more, and so on, exponentially. That's why the numbers climb so quickly. Add to that the fact that the "+two" rate is based on normal daily contact, not rally crowds, and the numbers grow astronomically.
And with that. I will once again reiterate my previous statement:
Peepul iz STOOPID!

I mean when you're testing literally tens of thousands of people there's going to be some errors no matter how many times you double check. Always better to be safe than sorry. I'm not going to just stop seeing doctors because one false positive HAPPENED to reach me.

TBH, the colleges should just be online though. People in college should just spend this year knocking out mandatory credits online at a community college and then transfer IMO.
DD's classes are all online. SHE hates it ... but Crazy Dog is in Heaven ... Her Girl is home nearly all day, every day... Crazy Dog is one Happy Camper!

My life hasn't changed much other than I wear a mask when I go somewhere and I lost my income. I worry a lot more than I used to though. I worry about my mother who lives in a beautiful little cottage on my property. My son is in the medical field and I worry about him. His wife is a nurse and I worry about her. I see them less which saddens me but social distancing comes very easily, I love being on my little farm with my animals.

I've been preparing for a major blow to the country in one form or the other, for almost 20 years. Self-reliance and voluntary simplicity are the fabric of my lifestyle. So many others are so much worse off than I am. I pray we all get through these times safely and united as a nation.

My dogs were so happy when the boys were briefly home all day during QT - more people to harass for playtime and pets. Now they're not anymore and they just follow me around the house wherever I go while the boys aren't home.

It's only a problem 2 times of the day - when I go outside and Old Dog tries to eat the compost and Killer Husky tries to eat the bunnies through the cages and I have to tie them up all while tripping over Goobery Puppy...
or when I go to the bathroom - which is a very small room - and all three try to pile into the room with me. This often ends with two dogs in the tub and one at my feet. :lau They're a mess, but I love them. And they've been loving this shutdown.

testing is sketchy--a friend had an app't to be tested a few months ago. Saw the huge line at the testing site and went home. A week later got a notice in the mail the test was positive! Had never been tested!
Or like here in SC where a patient was tested several times over a few weeks and it came back negative and when she died the family was wondering what they would put on her death cert. Well the coroner put Covid when in fact she was tested the day before she passed and it was negative. Now the family is having a battle getting the cause of death changed. Many insurance companies have clauses that won't pay out when it's pandemic related sadly.

I don't know how it is elsewhere, but here in Maryland, we have to take the mares to the stallions, not vice versa. It's partly beasue most studs have specially designed breeding stalls to keep their boys safe from the flailing hooves and teeth of temperamental, in-season mares. Mostly, though, it's because the stallions are simply too valuable to risk moving them around alot.
On a brighter note, as a kid, we visited Sagamore Farms, and I met Kauaii King, a son of Native Dancer. I still have the horseshoe his groom gave me! Northern Dancer, another Native Dancer son, retired here to Cecil County. My sister was visiting Windfields, when a groom asked if she wanted to see "The Dance." She figured he'd just take her to the paddock or let her hang over the stall door, but they brought the Old Man right out for her. As old and sway-backed as he was, he was still a showman, and pranced and shook his head as if showing off for a pretty young mare. For a Maryland girl raised on horse racing, it was the highlight of her world!
I LOVE my Maryland! i don't ever want to live anywhere else!

It always seemed as though there would be time to see Secretariat in person, and not so. He died too soon, sadly. What a horse!
The first time I attended the annual Trakehner meeting and stallion approvals, in Ohio that year, was dazzling! Wonderful horses, loved the whole approval process! And saw Abdullah, who was a world class open jumper, won Olympics, and met his owners, lovely people.
After having Arabians, where any male horse is 'stallion material', seeing this was a revelation.

We have the same problem at our house, but with a different species ... we have four ... and two of them know how to open latched doors.
