There's a new rule?

I'm open to correction if I'm wrong, but I don't think so, It looks like the "Powers That Be" are just enforcing some of the original ones more rigidly. One of them is the "No Politics," unless that's where the thread is specifically aimed. The other one, as near as I can see, is "family friendly."

But not every hate group is hateful enough to get removed if it hides under a respectable veneer.

So apparently the ash from the CA wildfires are now drifting over Ohio. I was wondering why it's been so hazy since yesterday afternoon. Now I know! :O

We've had so much rain and clouds and not nearly enough sun lately. I really want to get the most out of what's left of the summer in my garden so I hope we get some sun soon.

The fires in southern California are terrifying and I really can't imagine what it's like in northern California and the Northwest where they are worse. We don't live in the line of fire, but the air quality here is awful. The economic effects, on top of everything the pandemic is causing, make me really worried as I prepare for a major pay cut at work (as a single parent, that's a real concern).

But even with those worries, there are others who have it much worse. Specifically, the animals, plants, people being evacuated from their homes, the air, land and water. As the article @ChickenCanoe shared indicates, settler colonialism has caused much of the increase in fires in the area, as well as changes in attitude towards the environment. I really wish animals, plants, water, land and air could be seen as having similar "rights" as humans and that there were protections of these beings at least equal to those of corporations.

My sister lives in Ukiah which is about an hour north of Santa Rosa in the San Francisco bay area. Luckily her town has been spared but there are fires all around her and she says when she looks out the window the sky is orange and it’s like the apocalypse is coming! Very scary times indeed

Oh! Your poor sister ! Some friends had to evacuate Pasadena yesterday and others in the Bay Area/northern California sent photos of the sky that were absolutely horrifying. They looked like scenes from a science fiction film. It's pretty easy to lose hope with everything's that happening, although also taking inspiration from those who are managing the pandemic is creative, joyful ways and those tackling climate change fearlessly and with determination.

Hope those of you in fire zones are doing ok today and are safe and those who aren't are taking care of yourselves during the pandemic this week ❤

I was checking my local weather yesterday and saw the pictures of what it's looking like out there. 9:30am looks like night time and I cannot imagine the air quality right now.

Not long after we moved here there were some unusual fall wildfires fires up the mountain, about 5 miles away, and I had to get air purifiers to run indoor and had to mask up just to be outside for 10 minutes to feed the chickens.
Sorry to hear about the impending pay cut.

It's so disheartening to see, and know through recent history, that so many people see the environment as something to just be used and abused for pleasure or profit.
