Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

You dont have to have permits to own them in Kentucky..Only certain exotic species require permits to "Transport" them across state lines..There is a small list of exotic species that Kentucky will not let you own but of course quail is not on them..Their is also a large list of exotic species that dosnt even require a permit to transport..many birds are on that list..The coturnix isnt listed specifically but there are several breeders in Kentucky who do ship them..Bobwhite quail require a permit to hold more than 50 birds and to propagate them as they are considered "native wildlife" but birds like coturnix and ringneck pheasant are not native..thats why they dont require a permit to hold. Its a bit confusing unless you have dealt with Kentuckys KRS's before which are often worded in contradiction to themselves
