I just dont want to start a debate and theres already been a long drawn out one on this subject
smile.png
. annnd this post is for coturnix education not hybrids so that's why i want to steer away from it. It can surely be discussed in another post but i wont attend it LOL!

What??? Monarc doesn't want to go off-topic? Just yanking your chain, I'll stop now. But for the record, you started it!

Again this post is for coturnix colors and education. I was innocently answering my personal oppinons on strombergs bird colors/hybrids (and why I didnt want to post their color titles on the main post) I didn't want to discuss it further. Thanks for stopping this now I appreciate it.

Question... our quail are just under 8 weeks old. They are all doing thier respected girl/boy calls...
When would be a good time to change their feed, if at all? They are still eating the game/turkey starter. Ive tried with the adult gamebird conditioner and maintenence. They will eat it, just not sure on if they are supposed to change feeds?

I change mine to adult game feed once they start laying or 8 weeks old whichever comes first. that's what I do though I dunno what others do.

I've switched as earily as 6 weeks old and hadn't had a problem

That's what I do, too.

the starter has more protien i think? I dunno i'll have to look and get back to you on that one

yeah that's it lol (just looked)..... 24% protien in starter (in the brand i use), and only 15% protien in my adult "grower/finisher". I suppliment though so if you suppliment and don't feed starter i assume it could be the same as feeding starter if that makes sense.

But neither of them has calcium right? So how do you supplement calcium for them? I tried putting a cuttlebone in my buttons cage. It worked for a little while, till they broke it

So now I don't know what to do with that. They still have the cuttle, but I had one for my pharoahs to. Don't know if I want to put it in for them or not now.

I dunno about calcium in the bags i'll have to check that too and get back to you

But cuttle bones, I grind them up and give htem to the birds in powder form works great

my starter has calcium of a min of .7000% and the max is 1.2000%

the finnisher/grower has a min of.6000%
and the max is 1.1000%

Right, because they still need a high level of protein right? So just leaving them on starter would be okay? I actually feed my adults flock raiser, which has I think 20% protein, so this is okay for them, or do they need more protein?
