Are all cream leg bars crested? My friend has one that isn't and this hatchery's photo isn't.View attachment 3402769

I have two cream leg bars that are only weakly crested. I think when hatcheries breed toward egg laying, some the other characteristics can get pretty slack.

You can crack a few to eat and check those for fertility to get an idea? Also you could set up a “breeding pen” and put the rooster with one or two hens for a couple days and then take him out and collect her/their eggs. Should stay fertile for a while after the deed is done.

I think I would prefer to sell the chicks before I meet them. I get attached. That would also help pay for feed and chick costs. I did some research and the average price of a dozen is 20- 200$ depending on the breed. I have a Cuckoo marans rooster and 3 cuckoo hens I've considered breeding. And then a Serama roo, but I've never got a fertile egg from him.

Cuckoo marans should sell well. And you are right, easier to part with the eggs. Just look into the storage and shipping requirements before you start out

Don't forget you need to be NPIP certified to ship eggs out of state.

I'm not sure if I'm going to add more chicks this year. I think I might but I have to figure out how many I can actually add with the space I have. I also want to add a rooster at some point because I'd like to have the ability to hatch eggs on my own. I only have hens at the moment.

I also want more ducks but I don't know what I would do with more ducks lol.

I've also never raised ducklings before, so that would be an adventure. Maybe for another year, though! lol

Well I got refunded for the 9 that passed. The lady asked me which breeds were lost, and I’m like… i cant tell the difference between the leghorns and amberlinks, or the OEs and Mystic Marans (both copper maran crosses). So I left the refund to their discretion.

I’m trying to socialize with the chickies more - invited them to class today!

I just picked up my babies at the post office from My Pet Chicken… 3 barred rocks, 3 golden laced wyandottes, and 2 speckled Sussex. Everybody is thriving. Drank water, ate some food, and now they are under the brooder. My Boxer, Max loves them!

I love to see them come in all healthy and thriving like this. What a great little flock and 3 great breeds, one of my all time favorite birds was a Speckled Sussex.

18 weeks left! And I found a neighbor who wants the extra 8 chicks from my two orders, so double bonus!

Max getting to know the babies is adorable. Please excuse my son’s filthy hands, he just got off work, walked in the door, and said Gimme them babies! Lol
