My CX are growing like crazy! They are triple the weight of my eggers hatched at the same time. 23 have made it so far, one of which is a runt, and 9/23 are females. They are easy to handle but don't get out of the way at all. They're smart about food and water, but not much else. Took them 4.5 weeks to fully feather out, and I still have a few stragglers that aren't totally feathered.I just received 25 Cornish Rocks from Welp Hatchery. OMG they are so cute!!! I"m going to enjoy the heck out them for the next two months. All but one made it through safely and they are hopping about. Also I have 23 of my own eggs (RIR x PBB and RIR x SGE) set to hatch starting tomorrow, so this will be fun!!! It will be interesting to see the size difference increase as the CX grow.
That's such a shady thing to do, the store should place individual limits on chick purchases if this is a regular thing. That person is probably going to turn around and resell them for double the price.Chicks are in at our TSC here. Someone was waiting at the doors for them to open this morning to be first in line. They bought almost $900 in chicks! All the rare breeds where gone. La sigh. Nothing came in that I wanted tho so I'm good for now.
The EEs state they will lay blue or green eggs only now. Guess the breeding program changed for them at Hoover's. They had EEs, Domonique, Barred Rocks, Gold laced wyndots(spelling), cornish X and ducks left.
They had silver laced polish and some others but those bins were empty.
Shame on the manager who let that happen. That's 200 chicks. They should have placed a 10 chick limit. Raise hell so they rethink their policy.Chicks are in at our TSC here. I do this but I would never clean out a store on the day chicks are received. I have 100 chicks in the brooder and another 150 coming later. I took the time to order my own. The feed stores know there is a chick shortage and the result is that they lost potentially 50 chicken owners. Just another example of why not to shop there.I was thinking that was what's going to happen. It might even be that they grow them out some so they know if they are roosters or hens and make more money.
Buckley's local place in Colorado Springs, COThis was my favorite thread last year! Once you place a 2023 order, post the details! We can pass the time together! Once you get your new babies, let us know and post pics!
Where did you order from?
What did you order?
When will they hatch/how many weeks or months left?
I know it’s early…but I put 2 orders in for June next year already!I will live vicariously through all of you who get chicks long before that. School lets out here in June, so we get them when the kids (and teacher parents) can spend all day doting on them!
Worried that will happen to us, we just want a couple hens. We will see.I do this but I would never clean out a store on the day chicks are received. Hopefully they are straight run.
