Counting down the day until baby chicks get here!!!!!!!!

we were only going to get 5 chicks to start but then i got a little carried away. i justified it to my wife by saying "not all the chicks survie and you know we do have have more than enough room" for some reason she gave me the same look my mom use to years ago

Well I've lost a total of 6 so far. 1 GL Wyadotte, 2 Buff Opringtons, an EE, a RIR, and one I'm not sure. I hope this is it. I knew I was going to have losses though. I've raised 37 chicks in the last year (My first year with chickens) and hadn't lost one chick. I even order 27 from Murray last year and didn't lose 1! I knew my odds were going to be staked against me. I just hope that 6 is it.

I hope that is all for you too!

Well I've lost 4 more, making my total 10. Wow, I can't believe how much this sucks. I had 1 pass away at some point last night and I kinda was expecting that one. Then one (an Ancona) hadn't been acting right since the beginning, but the rest seem fine today and at some point in the afternoon I went to check on them AND 2 MORE?!?!? I don't understand. They seemed fine. I don't know. 10 seems a little excessive and worst of all I was suppose to get 3 EEs and I think they only gave me 2, and both of them died

. And what worst is I checked these breeds I've lost to see if I can get them all with my second order in May and the EEs are all sold out even the straight-run (I always order Sexed Females.) This sucks so bad. I was so looking forward to some green eggs...

Oh no, so sorry! I thought it was awful that we lost one but ten is ridiculously horrible to handle I'm sure. I'm not sure where you are located but I was able to get two sexed female EEs (advertised as araucanas) locally from a private seller on Craigslist but also all of the local feed shops are stocking day olds. Maybe you could get some replacements locally? Gotta have the green eggs! :) Good luck and hope that 10 is it!

Also thought I'd add that you still might have an EE hidden in there. One of mine looked just like a BO chick, no puffy cheeks or chipmunk coloring at all, just fluffy yellow. Now at almost 5 weeks it's feathering in like an EE with white and buff coloring and it's feet are green. I actually got a replacement EE because I thought I wasn't shipped one like I had ordered. Maybe you still have one?! :)

I hope the hatchery is working with you on this issue!

Well I go to check the brooder this more... 2 more

. That makes 12. Today was the end of my 48 hour period, so I called Meyer. This might be the first and only time I order from them. There is one woman (whose voice I've recognized) that I've talked to 2 or 3 times since my original order date who seem really nice and willing to please but the lady I talked to this morning about my losses...not so nice. Kinda aggravating. I asked her if she could substitute some other breed for the EEs that aren't available for my May 30th ship date... "NO." I don't understand that. Well I hope that my May 30th order goes off without a hitch because if it does it probably will be a while before I order any large orders from a hatchery since my flock will be around 70 at that point. I wish Murray had lower shipping costs and allowed you to order less than 25 chicks. I had such a good experience with them with my last years order of their Brown Layers Special. Oh well, I hope I don't lose any more, because Meyer customer service lady wasn't to keen on me getting replacements or refunds for any more losses even though I explained that they are dropping off steadily.
