Oh my, these little ones are so cute! Now I am wishing I decided to hatch my own. Maybe next time. We are getting our first little chicks in two weeks, they ship Feb 21st and we are beyond excited. We got 1 Easter Egger, 1 RI Red, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Australorp, 1 Buff Orp, 1 White Leghorn, and 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte! I ordered from MY Pet Chicken who I have read get their chicks from Meyer and we live in CA so I am a little nervous about their cross country journey. Fingers crossed that they all make it safely!

Ohh! Nice breeds!
I've enjoyed the whole incubating/hatching process. It's been so rewarding to watch each little hand turned egg hatch into a cute little fluffy (or soon to be fluffy) chick.

We ordered 25 assorted brown egg layers, 25 assorted rare layers, 2 meal makers from Meyer Hatchery. They are due to be delivered between March 20th - 22nd! We are going to be brooding them in our chicken coop which is a cinder block shed. There is a large area I can brood them in and by the time they are feathered out, the 3 season shelter will be ready with the 10x20x8 ft fully enclosed run.

Isn't that amazing? I'm so excited about getting my chicks, but I think hatching them out is will be quite an experience. Now that I think about it, I've never witnessed a baby chick hatching. I've witnessed and assisted my dogs having puppies and it too is an amazing feeling, but never baby chicks.
So I changed my order from Meyer. Now I'm getting 38. I added 4 sexed males to my order (since my previous 34 was all sexed females). I got 1 Black Copper Maran, 1 Delaware, 1 Speckled Sussex, and 1 Salmon Faverolles. I wanted a Welsummer but they didn't have any the week my ship out.

40 MORE DAYS!!!!!

I just ordered some. Haven't gotten my ship date yet, but I can't wait! I got Ameraucanas, which I'm super stoked for, they were my favorite, New Hampshires, and Barred Standard Plymouth Rock. can't wait to name them :)

Ok, I have some pics!

The only two of our eggs that hatched. 1 leghorn/RIR mix, the other full RIR. (The rest that we hatched were given to us by a friend.)
The other two (another leghorn/RIR mix and full RIR) both pipped, then failed to hatch. :(

The little girls' dollhouse furniture. I think the chicks like it. =P

Ridin' with my "peeps" (in a dollhouse car)

I like this one 'cause it looks like they are in a little house. :)
