Mine are due in 82 days. May 7 hatch date. And then I'll really own some chickens!

But I finally figured out how to do my roosts! It's a small coop, and figuring out how to NOT have roosts over the food, or the water, or the nest boxes, or the doorway, or each other, was a pain. However, I think I've won that round!

I have three 2x3 roosts, attached with hinge to the back wall, one 18 inch long (so the door clears it when I open it) and 18 inches off the floor, one 24 inches long (so the door clears it if I open the door all the way) and 24 inches high, and a third 36 inches long and high (which pretty much spans the coop) The 2x3 legs are hinged to the horizontal roost sticks so that I can fold each one up against the wall when I want to get in to clean or feed or whatever. A cup hook and small bungie cord for each keeps them up while I'm working in there.

Next step, finish my electrical wiring!

And then fence and roof for a reasonably sized run, but I have to wait till the snow melts, probably about the same time the chicks arrive.

Patience is a virtue, they say. They aren't much fun, those people....
