Cousin It

Maybe that one is split cranial instead of bi-laterally like the other one... (I will find a link but it was posted on BYC about a hen on one side and a rooster on the other side left and right - the chicken was facing a double mirror so the 'viewer' could see both sides.

Is it possible that Cousin It is actually a boy and he has been the non-dominant male for so long, and with the added stimulus of 'vent patting' that he has become... how can I say this ... batting for the other side, on the other bus, a big ABBA fan, an appreciator of Broadway musicals and so on ? I mean does he keep his part of the coop extremely neat & tidy?

I think you know what I'm trying to say.

The 'vent patting' thing, yes.... that seems a bit odd. Dare you explain it in more detail? above the tail

... or erm.... below the tail

(there isn't a "squirming in my seat at the mere thought of 'below the tail patting' " smilie, so sad

will have to do)

I had a red star with a comb like that... it didn't flop over and she looked like a rooster in the front. So much so that my mother asked me why we had a rooster...

she was very heavy too.

Vent patting?

I guess it kinda is like milking a roo for his, um, fluids to AI a hen. But not really.

Its kinda funny though.

I wonder if 'IT" isnt a very old, low level roo who has lost his interest in girls, or is a very old hen tha is no longer producing eggs. It looks old, going by the ratty tailfeathers and the comb. Could be a capone? (castrated roo)

Does it have spurs?

but my mother taught me not to point and stare.

I agree, pointing and staring at vents is not something to be encouraged.
I think your mother did the right thing, and I hope all other mothers take note

Here is a link to a dual sex chicken, but this is split left and right (not front to back which yours seems to be a bit) Is she or isn't he?

Perhaps I should point out that my lighthearted humor regarding 'vent patting' is just lighthearted humor and I will not be phoning the Animal Protection League or anything like that.
Please don't be put off posting more info about your chicken because of my childish behaviour.

Sometimes I just get carried away....

..... usually by burly men dressed in white who just happen to have a straitjacket with them at the time.
