Coyote Patrol

You feed that dog something special this week!!!

I hope you really praised her when she came back after chasing them away.

I'm just waiting for the day I see one jump our fence. I have a gun and if the shot is right, I'll use it.

I think a coyote would have my Golden Retriever for dinner.

Good doggie Debi. Gal do not mess with a pack of them, they can injure or kill your dog...poor baby is 1 against how many? Shoot one of them...aim for the biggest one or most aggressive/confidant one. Drop his/her butt and they will scatter and think twice about coming back. Do not let them stay in the yard when you catch you...drop one every time if you have too.

I don't know your layout, but I would counsel to be careful using a rifle or even a pistol other than point blank range. If you miss, where did that bullet end up? A lot of rifles can carry a mile easily. Even if you are aiming downward, it could hit a stone and ricochet to who knows where. Use a shotgun.

The thing is a .223 isn't a large caliber rifle It .22 cal its just going about 3100 feet per second

I'd shoot them even if they do leave hunt them down and kill em all

Nice- sounds like this thread has turned into a ballistics lesson

i was just saying how fast it goes, small bullet incredible speeds..... it seams like some people on this site always try to get something to argue about.

They RARELY get inside the fence. Tonight is the first time in months. Good ol Scooter scooted them right on out. That dog needs a cow bone from the store tomorrow.

Be careful with Scooter!! Until my husband started shooting, the coyote's came back. Our dog Pierre was gutted and had to be put down. There's always one coyote with an attitude that will challenge a dog!! By the time we left NV, we'd lost our dog, pygmy goats and 5 chickens to them, not to mention what our neighbors lost. The only consolation was that between my husband and our neighbors, 9 coyote's were shot. When somebody called Animal Contol on them, all they said to the caller was "good!"... LOL!

farmin'chick :

Here in our area there used to be a bounty on coyotes -- I think there still may be one.

There should be in areas where the population gets too big! We don't have problems with them here.... Only 'possums. We cured that problem by housing our goat (full sized, no more pygmys) in the chicken pen area. She stomped the only one that got thru the fencing! She was raised with the chickens, so she doesn't bother them. We joke that we have a trained, attack watch-goat!

LOL!!! The biggest problem with trying to shoot anything here after dark is that it is pitch black out there. I could see their eyes was all. Scooter raised such a ruckus and was running in circles around them hollering at them. He pushed them back to the fence and next thing I knew they were gone. This morning, I can see the coops haven't been touched. Good Doggy!!!!
