Coyote Patrol

I said 7-10 could be more could be less. We live in too rural of an area for anyone to even TRY to round up the multitude of coyotes.

I am in the high desert in SoCal. This is the first time I have seen any on my property. They are usually running down the middle of the street - cleansing of the gene pool there. I didn't see the goats with Scooter, but they are usually a trio. Scooter even head butts with them, they were raised together. Ken and I checked everything and could see no signs of anything being disturbed. Ken will be waiting with the gun tonight, just in case. Scooter will stay safe.

Is there a fence around your yard? If so, there is a product called "Coyote Rollers" that might be something that helps your situation long term. I think they will be back and they will now have devised a plan about how to kill your dog so that they can try to get into your chicken pens. Maybe you need another dog... You know what my dogs hate, and the coyotes might too...I have this ultrasonic dog barking deterrent that I use when I go on trips with my Dachshund. Antime it barks it lets out a pulse of sound that dogs hate. It also has a button so you can turn it on when you want. It actually makes my brother's Bull Terrier wince and put his ears down when I tried it on him once.

That is all you need to see, aim between them. hahaha

Too funny, I was coming back toask you it I should do that. Ken got mad at me for not waking him up. I don't shoot so well, but I am not afraid to try!!!!!

Heck yeah between the eyes is good, in the chest or just behind the shoulder area in the rib cage. Heck shoot him three times if that is what it takes, just make sure you kill it. The one dog I got in the face/forehead charging me and the other one in the ribcage area/lungs while he was busy trying to get at my birds. I hate hate hate doing it but my birds come first.

A coyote roller is basically a metal tube at the top of your fense and when it is touch for leverage to go over the fense it rolls
and the dogs can not get a foothold.
What kind of dog is Prince Scooter? What a good boy.
Adding a great pyranese or anatolian shepherd to your yard would give scooter some serious back-up.
Add 2 nuetered adult male llamas who are friends to your family would also help that out. Two of them would be fine to handle some coyotes.
And they will also alert you, your dog and the chickens that something is out there. Gives you a heads up to get flashlight and shotgun.
Or........ if you already have a fense up around the perimater go to Tractor Supply or a store like that. If it is chainlink you can
hot wire it for pretty cheap. Which will stop them from going over or under the fense.
As far as shooting them........... a shot gun will give you the best results. Your in a rural area so be careful. But, if your shooting at night
you need to know where your dog and your husband are. Shooting into pitch black, as you said.......... could be fatal to more then
a coyote. Sometimes it can be hard to tell just who those eyes belong to.

Scooter is a german shephard mix. Mixed with what I have no idea, as he was one of 6 puppies the previous tenants left under the house. Mama was a shephard.

yes I have been told that they will send out a b**ch in heat and hide and wait to ambush the male dog that will follow the female that attracted him. then once the male dog is in the right spot the rest of the pack attack.

Please be very careful and if your dog is not fixed be on the lookout for a tactic like that one.

Ditto to both of these above..
Deb, your dog is in big time danger.... right now they are sizing him up....they KNOW how to kill in a pack.
They will be back... i'm really really scared for your dog...
