If they're that big, could you use cork coasters as pieces? Light weight, at least....

Hi,
The checker sets I've seen (large size) have been made out of a tree branch, with the bark still on. Painted on top the basic red and black...or you could stamp..."roosters and hens" ....

They were cut across about 1" thick...and the width...that would depend on your pattern size.

OH I bet that looks fantastic!!

Or start collecting bottle tops - and make them like the little pin cushions!

You guys all have such great ideas for the checkers! I love it! I really am taking the easy way out... the wood pieces I am getting are discs, so they're already perfect, I just have to decorate them. If I had the time to do it I think I would probably do like Parson's wife suggested - that totally fits my style.

Oh and just to be clear... the cut squares were 3.5", so pieced together they're 3".

When my girls were younger I sewed most of their things especially their nice dresses. I don't sew as much for them now that they are older. It costs more than I am willing to spend to sew my own jeans and hoodies.

yep, thats why i dont sew for my boys..they wear jeans and button up shirts and that would cost way more to sew than to just buy, but i cant find any really nice little girls dresses for sale that arent too adult looking for my tastes.

I sew some things for my daughter...not much in the way of clothes for my son. I mostly make the summer clothes for her, not many winter...and I convert jeans to jeans skirts for her so they are modest and super cute.

I do the same for me when I have a chance...
