Crafters- What are you making???

The only two store with any types of beads in them down in town were closed when I went Mon. So I am making ornaments with the girls for the slumber party. I think Halloween ones they would like better than Christmas. So we will do Bats, jack'o'lanterns, ghosts, ect. out of homemeade clay, baked , painted and sprayed with a clear coating.

They will love those Monica..check the etsy.com pages for beaded spiders, lots of halloween looking ones there. Are you a girl scout leader? I did that for about 6 years and we did tons of crafts, alot of fun, every mother should be a scout leader!! Boy Scouts are cool too but expect more camping out than crafts there! Good luck Monica!

No, but my mother was both a girl and den leader and my dad was a scout leader for over 60 yrs. In fact before he passed on in June he was traininh other leaders. I had great experiences with scouts when I was a child, my DS had a great pack and troop. All of my experiences with girlscouts with my DD's were horrible!! I hesitate to put DGD in because of it. I also don't drive(I am working on it) and DH says if she wants to do ANYTHING, I need to learn to drive(his way of forcing the issue). They seem to have a wonderful troop here in our little community though.

I AM going to get the beads I need for the spiders though.

You'll do just great with the driving and the spiders I'm sure

Really admirable about your dad and 60 years of devotion to scouting Monica! It's really a great way for parents to stay in tough with their kids and to teach them good traits like problems solving and sharing when they are young. We had our kids in Christian school through the 6th grade and then were lucky enough to move them into a brand new middle school and from there a brand new high school was built and they went into it..ranked almost at the first year in the top 5 of the state for SAT scores so the problems were minimal at both. Makes a big difference what kids are taught when they are young..good for you and your family

Monica - Do you have any old costume jewelry that you don't wear that has beads on it? If so - do what I do. Tear it apart and use the beads. Ask friends, neighbors, relatives. I am the broken jewelry collector in my family, on my street, at my bank and anywhere else I can get my hands on it. All the tellers at my bank bring me thier broken jewelry or just one earring because they lost one, etc.
Ask those scout moms. I bet they have stuff laying around.

Good luck with the driving. You will do great.

I actually had tons of jewlery supplies and eads a few years ago and gave them to a teenage neighbor who was just getting into it and the rest I gave to one of my daughters. I keep kicking myself for it, but at the time I hadn't touched it in years. Now DGD is into it and I wish I had it all back. That is why I don't get rid of anything. Sometimes I just feel cluttered and have to do it. I will put it up on freecycle and see if I can find some. Thanks for the idea.

I just found out that it might rain on sat. The day of DGD's slumber party. I need to think of alternative things for them to do if they can't be outside. I can't go buy anything more so I must do with what I have. I have thought of updating old-fashioned party games, I could show them how to make chesecloth ghosts or peanutbutter fudge or choc. covered candy. Maybe carmel corn. Any ideas?? I will have to go through my craft stuff.

Someone suggested to me on the birthday thread that I started a while back that the kids can make Jelly Bean bracelets. I don't know how old they are, but I think it could work for a wide range of ages...especially if the are older girls, you could get them the "designer" Jelly Belly jelly beans....say that three times fast

If you're interested in the logistics, take some fishing wire or thread with some weight to it, and some needles and thread the beans and there you have it.

Easy, cute, indoors, and customizable. Hope this helps...I will keep thinking of more ideas
