Oven Flour Clay Recipe

Instructions for making clay using flour, salt, and water.
Materials Needed:

2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
3/4 - 1 Cup Water
Instructions:
Mix together flour and salt. Add the oil and then slowly add the water and stir until you get a nice clay consistency. Once completely mixed, make into the desired shapes. Bake in a 250 degree oven for approximately 1 hour. This will vary depending on how thick you creations are. One hint, do not make shapes too thick or they will crack with baking. For a golden apperance, paint your creations with egg yolk before you put it in the oven.

the person who used it, used goat shaped cookie cutters to make refrigerator magnets.

I'm not sure what you mean by "old fashioned" candy, but I make Macadamia Nut Toffee every year (have to or everyone would be pounding at my door). Macadamia nuts can be expensive, but I buy them at Costco, so it's not so bad. If anyone's interested, I'll be happy to post the recipe (to late right now to go look - hoping to be able to get back to sleep soon).

i make divinity, reese's cups, choc pops, irish potato candy, peanut brittle, hard tack candy things like that. i want to try makeing ribbon candy this year and salt water taffy and not sure what else.

hmmm... we don't have one of them stores here and i've not seen those type of nuts for sale here. i love to eat them in white choc chunk cookies though, them pepridge farm cookies r so good, lol. we have like walmart and biglots here and it's usually almonds, cashews, walnuts, pecans and mixed nuts, oh and peanuts. i've never made toffee before. that would be kool to learn to make but i'd have to substatute for another nut to put in. i wonder what else might taste good to try in it?

Potato Candy

1 cup mashed potatoes (not instant)
1/4 cup of almond flour (almonds ground down to a fine floury texture)
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 lbs confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup flaked coconut or pecans

Combine the potato, salt and vanilla and the coconut (or pecans). Sift the confectioners sugar over potato gradually (be patient and mix well) and when it gets to the consistency of a stiff dough start kneading it (including kneading in any remaining sugar you were not able to "mix" in).

Put in bowl with a lid in fridge till it is firm enough to be rolled out into a "sausage"... cut off small portions and roll.

Dip these balls into melted chocolate and finish off by dipping again into coconut flakes or pecan crumbles.

Freezes well.

Rock candy is soooo easy to make. It's basically just corn syrup, sugar, water, and flavoring oil. You need a glass candy thermometer; if you don't have one right now, it's the best time of the year to get one because they are absolutely impossible to find around the holidays. Send me a PM to remind me and when I'm home I'll get my recipe card out and type it out for ya. You may have to wait a week for it, though.

I'm out of town currently.

I make these for the holidays along with the rock candy: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chocolate-Almond-Pinecones/Detail.aspx If you love almond paste and chocolate, these are to die for!
