I have really stupid question that I just need to get asked.

Ok, I see a lot of people go to craigslist to post their roosters
for a new home.

I am wondering who would want a mean rooster??

I know that if I have a mean rooster that is probably what I am going to do,
but it just confused me why someone would want the rooster.

Any opinions or experiences would be great.

Not all roosters are mean. People put the ad because they are not allowed roosters or they don't like the crowing. I'd never be able to cull my own chick. Therefore, I'd place an ad in craigslist if I had a rooster I couldn't keep.

I've posted a few mean roosters, never really expected anyone to want them.

People did want them. I was brutally honest about why they were going. I don't eat chicken and I do NOT want a mean rooster around. They were purebreds, but I didn't post that info. Don't want them being bred to improve a line, because they wouldn't.

I made it clear that I was giving them away, full disclosure and if they were to be eaten, so be it. But I did stipulate that humane treatment and a fast, merciful killing would be much appreciated. It's a hard lesson, but once you give away or sell a rooster, you no longer have any say in their treatment.

I did once get a rooster from a CL ad. Nicest, handsomest EE roo ever, he died protecting his flock one day.

Thanks, your replies have been most helpful in clearing up some confusion for me.

I am glad to know that other people do want some of the
mean rooster that can emerge. It is nice to know that if
I get a mean on he can be posted on Craigslist and most
likely find a new home even if it means a soup pot.

I "accidently" purchased 9 roos last year...didn't want any of them...gave one away to a friend, the rest we sold at a local sale barn...but I would have posted them on Craigs list if I had no other options...just didn't want them...gorgeous birds though, didn't wan to cull any of them myself!
