Wrong, the P.O. will cover them if the box has visible damage to the outside of it. For example, if it obviously got stepped on or stabbed with something, they'll pay. Otherwise insuring is a waste of money.
The only 'good' thing about insurance is that if they lose it, they'll reimburse you, though I've never had eggs completely 'lost'.

The post office will not cover eggs under insurance. I have asked many post offices and they will not cover them. No matter if the box is damaged. Or if it is lost. If it say eggs on the box or they know it has eggs in it. They will not refund for shipping. The Insurance does not cover eggs.......

If the box is damaged and the contents inside are broken, then it is covered. If the contents inside are broken but their is no damage to the box, then they dont cover it.

I will have some eggs hatching I hope on Thursday/Friday. I will have some BCM, Frizzles, Blue Marans. If anyone is interested in shipped chicks, let me know. I had to takers on the last batch.. :{ I am not sure if the heat is keeping you away or not but I would love to know. This is my first year of shipping. The temps down here are dropping to 76-79 at night and the highs are around 91 so that should be easy on them.
