Crazy Chicken (Blood Warning)

Sounds like pretty good diet. I’m not sure the brand of your feed I assume it’s your basic balanced chicken feed. I think this is s 2 step prob for you unfortunately. Fixing the ingured then figuring out why after that. By the way welcome to BYC. A chicken owners best friend! So many knowledgeable people here. They amaze me!
thanks very much, I wish it were under better circumstances, my dad looks heartbroken over the situation he definitely loves those girls

Blu kote is usually farm supply stores. TSC or local feed stores doesn’t sound like you have any stopping the bleeding would be first step I think. Let me try to pull up a homeade chicken sling info to send. Man. Sounds rough. So sorry your having to go though this

Check for injuries.
I'm guessing one bird may have had something on her butt which caused the others to start pecking it.
When chickens see blood they go after it.
So your birds may have not actually turned mean but they can't help themselves...they want to eat the blood.

I would wash them all asap to get the blood off and see where it's coming from.

We feed them chicken layer pellets (From new zealand as that is where we live) it advertises that it has a complete and balanced diet of protein energy and calcium. They also are given food scraps and greens from the garden.
Do you know the brand name of this feed or do you have a link to the store that sells it?

I doubt it has anything to do with their feed.

Something happened in the coop today.
Look for nails or anything sharp that could have cut one of them.

Are you for sure that not critter got in and did harm?

Corn starch or baking powder can be used to help stop bleeding. I use it on dog claws if they break into the quick. Just make sure they don't peck at the corn starch or baking powder. Not baking soda! Baking powder.

Edit to add - baking powder is also what the local livestock vet had me use on my horse, when she ripped her shoulder wide open, to help stop the bleeding, keep flies out of it, and to hold the spray-on medication on. She healed up amazingly well. We're talking a gash about a foot long, bone deep, and splayed wide open. Now you can't even tell it happened.
