Crazy hatching attempt

Okay, thanks! I was starting to panic there for a second. For some reason I don't remember noticing this on my broody hatched eggs. Interestingly, this is also the easiest blue egg I've candled yet. My previous ones were so dark!

I agree. It has someone to do with the membrane growing and spreading. I recall it happening around day 7 or so.

I think I can see blood rings on some of the eggs. Probably should take those out soon. I have a question, since the egg is being incubated with the fat end up, the embryos seem to be developing really close to or on the aircell? Is that normal? I mean, they're not in the middle of the egg like I've seen in a lot of candling pictures.

What day are you on? Do not cull for blood rings before 12-14 days. There are normal stages of development that can appears very similar to blood rings if you don't know what you're looking for.

I'm on day 7. Yesterday I broke open one of the eggs with a blood ring and it was obvious that it was dead. There was a very small development on the top, and then the ring around the yolk. No veins at all. I'll keep that in mind, but I've read so many stories about bad eggs exploding that I put them on the other side of the incubator, away from the ones that I think are good! I'll wait a little longer.

I get it. There is a cautionary tale about everything. If you candle your eggs before you set them specifically looking for hairline or spider fractures you should be fine ok to hold off on blood rings until 100% certain. If you didn't do that and only looked for more obvious cracks that you can see with the naked eye I'd be more cautious. Don't forget there is always the good ol' "sniff test" if you're concerned about an egg. Ultimately it's up to you which way you'd rather error. There is no perfect answer.

Hi! Update on the eggs:
It is now day 11. I threw out 6 of the BCM eggs because they were not developing. When I broke them open (no smell, thank goodness), there was either a few blood spots, a blood ring or not developed at all. Only one of them had an embryo, and I'd say it was maybe day 3? The eggs were opened from 7-10 days of development.

I am now left with 6 of my friend's eggs and my EE control. They are doing awesome! They are moving and wiggling around so much! I am tracking their progress with the help of this article https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/development-of-a-chicken-embryo-day-by-day.72537/

Update: It's day 17! Tomorrow is lock down. One of the eggs though seems to have developed a saddled air cell?! I noticed it yesterday. Is this going to be a problem?

Looks like normal drop down? They all will start to look that way closer to hatch as the baby gets into position to hatch
