They say the second test only works on brown eggs. So it wouldn't work on any other colored eggs unfortunately.

Yes, but it also sounds like red sexlinks--They have the most difference in feather color. Black sexlinks are very similar until older except for a spot on the head. It would not work at all for other brown egg laying breeds.

Also, the test that involves amniocentesis is only cost effective if 20-30,000 eggs are involved. Basically at that point it eliminates/pays for eliminating 1 x feather sexing/vent sexing employee. So for small farms, there is no solution as of yet. However, at least in large hatcheries, they will humanely dispose of the eggs instead of killing them after they are born.

I read the article and then saw your post about sexing. I thought it was interesting and figured I would post. I knew whatever it was, it would be out of our reach.

Oh no! I did not mean it that way! We welcome your post, it was just a comment about the test involved. I was not even aware that they were doing it. Once you posted, I went into details from various resources including NIH as to the current status in USA. If you had not posted, at least I would not have known in the near future.

I did not take offense at all. If it sounded like I was, I'm sorry. LOL maybe I should reread what I typed, haha.

I snapped these two this morning, speedy. They are still a mess due to the fermented feed. There are a couple of bielefelders in here, but I can't tell them apart right now.

Thanks for the photos. They look healthy and growth about same size at this age. I am plan to cross Bielefelder with CL later this year as my Bielefelder rooster still not yet mature.

My Bielefelder rooster not old enough and I am very disappoint the English Orpington laying. Have anyone cross English Orpington with CL?
