How
How old are your Orps?
They are about 12-18 months old. I have blue, black and chocolate English Orpington. They are nice looking bird, but laying is different story.

Thank you! So the offspring will get a brown egg copy and a blue egg copy which combines to make green? Unless the CL has a brown egg copy which will then lead to some brown egg laying offspring?
The Blue egg shell gene O is only incompletely dominant(as most genes are, there are a few that are completely dominant) so a hen that i O/o+ will have a lighter shade of blue than a hen that is O/OEgg shells can only be white or blue. Blue is Dominant so it only takes one to make a blue egg shell..

Quote: Not to argue since I don't know personally, but I heard the exact opposite is true. Apparently crossing a CL or Ameraucana with a leghorn will result in a SBEL (Super blue egg layer). Genetically they are O/o+ and lay a darker blue egg than the O/O hens.
I hope to find out for myself one day. I gave a O/O rooster to a friend who has leghorn hens. I'm hoping to get some eggs from her and hatch them out this year. Of course it will probably be a year from now before I get any eggs from the resulting offspring.![]()
@ronott1 and @nicalandia can you shed some light on this comment/observation by @ochochicas reference SBELsNot to argue since I don't know personally, but I heard the exact opposite is true.
